The Theme of The Movie
The film entitled “Contagion” started with the story of Beth Emhoff who dies from an idiopathic type of disease soon after her return from a business trip to Hong Kong. Unluckily her son also dies on the same day she was passed away, and the good thing is her husband seems immune from the said virus. From that day on, Doctors from the U.S. Centers for disease Control, started to analyze the extent of this infection, they identify first the type of virus and find a cure and solution to this. By that, it begins the spread of the deadly infection which spread to millions of people worldwide, that causes societal breakdown as people being threaten on this alarming situation. II. Summary

The story started with Beth Emhoff which visited Hong Kong for her business trip. On her trip she dropped by in Chicago and net with her ex-boyfriend. As she go home to Minneapolis she already had a flu. Beth’s condition got worst and eventually she died. On that day also, her son Clark got sick and passed away also suspected that the cause of death was meningoencephalities. Beth’s husband Mitch was put into the isolation for diagnosis if he was also already affected of the infection, but luckily, it was find out that he is genetically immune to the virus. But, still Mitch’s daughter Jory, is not sure if she is also immune so he protected her very much to the point that he did not accept anyone to near her child until things got back to normal.

Since the MEV-1 Virus increase rapidly, the number or mortality rate and affected area deaths become rampant. To analyze deeply what this virus and to have a solution for this problem, The World Trade Organization sent epidemiologist to Hong Kong to check out the origin of the virus. But, as the virus continue to spread, it make to the point that Chinese kidnapped the epidemiologist in exchange for the vaccine to save the remaining people in the Chinese community. They gave what the kidnappers ask for by putting fake vaccine in exchange to the Doctor.

To further understand the case, the Department of Homeland Security sent another Doctor to Minnesota, which is Dr. Mears to investigate since they think that the virus is a weapon intended to spread terror among people. Then, Dr. Mears worked with the local bureaucrats of Minnesota to put a field medical station where the infected people were to be quarantined, but unfortunately she got infected and eventually died.

As the autopsy of Beth’s body came out, they figure out the origin and studied the possible vaccine for the virus throughout their study and experiments. But, there is an internet journalist, who wanted to published his story about using forsythia which in the end turned out no effect at all but cause people to quarrel and do crimes only for this lies. However, he was bailed out by his 12 million supporters.

At the end, MEV-1 virus was shown to be originated from a bat which flew in a nearby piggery and dropped a small piece of banana which is eaten by pig. As the pig being butchered and...
