Following the countries accession to the World Trade Organization, financial liberalisation has picked up considerable momentum. Compared to other studies on financial liberalisation, this study focuses on the impact of financial liberalization on Vietnam’s stock market. After collecting data, calculating and running models, in comparision with previous studies, it shows us that there are some points to be mentioned as following.
For the contribution to the literature, there is very few of previous researches show the empritical study about the effects of financial liberalization on the liquidity and efficiency of stock market. The number of that studies is especially smaller when we discuss about Vietnam’s stock market. In this research, we have answered that big question.
Our report have pointed out the positive effect of financial liberalization on Vietnam’s stock market by calculating and running the quantitative model. From our significant results, we propose some suggested policies in order to help managers to have the most effective way to make use of the opportunities coming from financial liberalization, and toward a stock market that have the most liquidity and efficiency in the liberalization condition.
For the limitation of study, data used is monthly dataset, so there is values missing because of the lack of available information. Beside that, the problem of collecting data from different sources with different definitions, different criterias, different methods of calculating, … will lead to some errors or differences in the result. Moreover, models did not mention some factors of macroeconomics, political measures, investment risk which is showed by theoreotical studies that they can impact stock market.
Because of limitation of time and knowledge, we have not reviewed so many previous studies to have strong thereotical framework for our research.
If our time is more flexible, we will develop this studies and overcome the limitation

ABSTRACT Vietnam is experiencing a rising inflation and volatility in asset markets in recent years. The main reason for this is a large inflow of foreign exchange relative to economic size, which generates liquidity surplus, economic overheating and accumulation of international reserves. Exchange overvaluation is also occurring but it is partly offset by the falling US dollar to which the Vietnamese Dong is almost pegged. This type of economic boom is commonly observed in capital-receiving countries around the world. Aggressive public investment of the Vietnamese government is contributing further to economic buoyancy. Reform of macroeconomic management and the monitoring of incoming capital are called for as Vietnam integrates into the global financial market. Global influences such as high oil and other commodity prices, as well as shocks due to floods and animal epidemics, also affect Vietnamese inflation but the main policy response should be directed to the management of large capital inflows. Key words: inflation, exchange rate, asset bubble, financial liberalization, capital account crisis.…

THE VIETNAMESE STOCK MARKET By Roberta S. Karmel Thirty years ago, I never imagined I would be visiting Vietnam and be warmly welcomed as an American, witnessing a nation enjoying economic growth and increasing prosperity, despite some of the lingering ill effects of Agent Orange in the countryside. Yet, last month, as part of a delegation from the Financial Women’s Association, I had the good fortunate to travel to Vietnam and meet with government officials and others and learn about business developments and Vietnam’s booming stock market. i[i] It is noteworthy that the United States is Vietnam’s top trading partner, and its second biggest investor after Taiwan. Vietnam’s GDP is rising dramatically, its foreign direct investment is rapidly increasing, and its stock market is soaring. On November 7, 2006, Vietnam was officially recognized by the international community as the 150th WTO member. Vietnam is Asia’s second fastest growing economy after China, and it has been forecast that Vietnam will become the world’s 17th largest economy by 2025. Although the country has been a oneparty communist state since 1976, Vietnam has eased restrictions on private enterprise and is selling off many state owned enterprises (“SOEs”) to the public. These offerings are not referred to as “privatizations” for ideological reasons, but rather are called “equitizations.” In 1986, Vietnam launched the Doi Moi (or Renovation) intended to transition the country from a centralized economy to a socialist-oriented market economy. These reforms have borne fruit. In 2006, Vietnam’s stock market index surged 145% and in the first three months of 2007, the index rose another 60%. It should be understood that the Vietnamese stock…

For this purpose to find out the impact of macroeconomic variables on stock exchange, four unlike variables are supposed to study i.e. exchange rates, interest rates, inflation and GDP (Gross domestic product). Year on year data of 19 consecutive years acquired for the research. For concluding results, statistical tools i.e. multiple regressions and Pearson’s correlation models are used. The study shows (80%) variation in the dependent variable has explained by the independent variable. Therefore, the model is good fitted and there is a strong relationship between dependent and independent variables, variation in the stock prices explained up to (80%) by the variation in the independent variables. The study result shows direct and positive correlation between macroeconomic variables like exchange rate, inflation and GDP (Gross domestic product) growth rate with stock prices of KSE-100 index while negative impact found on the stock prices of KSE-100 index of the interest rate.…

US financial markets play an important role in contributing to the health and efficiency of the economy, businesses, and individuals. (Spiegel, 2002) Because there is a strong relationship between the health of the economy and financial market development and economic growth, even a slight dip in the financial markets can radically effect how the economy, businesses, and individuals respond. (Ask Dr Econ, 2005) Financial markets “facilitate the raising of capital in the capital markets, the transfer of risk in the derivatives market, price discovery, global transactions with integration of financial markets, the transfer of liquidity in the money markets, and international trade in the current markets.” (Financial Markets, 2013) When the financial markets are doing well, “firm-level, industry-level, and cross-country studies all suggest that the level of financial development exerts a large, positive impact on economic growth.” (MIT, 2001)…

    I. INTRODUCTION The stock market plays an important role in the economy by mobilising domestic resources and channelling them to productive investment. This implies that it must have a significant relationship with the economy. The relationship can be seen, in general, in two ways. The first relationship views the stock market as the leading indicator of the economic activity in the country, whereas the second focuses on the possible impact the stock market may have on aggregate demand, particularly through aggregate consumption and investment. In other words, whether changes in stock market cause…
