It is the second amendment for the right to bear arms. Every different state decides if people have the right to carry a concealed weapon. Federal gun control laws also affect the implication of the states laws. People are held to gunpoint nearly every day in big cities like Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. If this happens to someone, they should have the right to defend themselves and match the power. People just need to make the right choices with that weapon. Concealed weapons should be legal so one can feel safe, and be safe when an attack approaches. If an everyday citizen is attacked by a gun, they now have a real form of defense. People can now match or even outmatch the attacker’s firepower. Say a gunman comes into a store; he would think he has the advantage. Little does he know that the store clerk has his own weapon. That could be the deciding difference if someone dies or not. Some may say that if more people have concealed weapons, there is a higher risk for attacks. If anyone can legally have a hidden firearm, nobody will know who can be the attacker. When in reality, gun fights would go down in volume. Since the attacker will not know who has a firearm, he will be less likely to attack since it could possibly backfire on him. In an article regarding the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that killed 26 people, Walton County Superintendent Carlene Anderson gave her ideas of arming teachers with firearms. She was conflicted about supporting it or not and then stated, “It is the duty of the school, and especially teachers, to protect students during the day, and if a threat presents itself, a concealed weapon might prevent a tragedy.” (Anderson) This is a superintendant deciding whether or not to implement this law right after a horrific tragedy involving guns killing.
