Computer Programming: A Career Guide for Seniors
The principal objective of this paper is to convince high school seniors to enter computer
programming. The paper begins with a short introduction touching on the benefits of this career.
In paragraphs two to four there is a brief history reflecting on some of the milestones in
the field. This paper follows with a description of programming, followed by the
state of computer programming today, and where it can lead perspective seniors in their career.
Page seven describes the presentation to the students, followed by the reference page. The survey
results follow, then a graphic showing the results, followed by the Visio diagram outlining
the steps in the presentation for the seniors.
A young person growing up in today’s world has countless opportunities to venture into. Competition is leading the way for excellence in the job market. One of the more rewarding opportunities today is a career in computer programming. Computer programming would be a great career choice for any high school student to pursue based on the benefits that it offers, including: salary, flexibility, and demand.
History
Computer programming is nothing new, at least not in the way that it is perceived today. Dating as far back as the 1600’s early computers were first being envisioned and created. It was during this time that the very first calculating machine was invented. This early machine was capable of being programmed to do specific tasks.
Then in 1835 an inventor named Charles Babbage conceived the Analytical Engine, which was the first programmable, mechanical computer.
