1. BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE COMPANY
The JD Group Limited which is also known as “JDG” headquartered in Braamfontein, South Africais a public company that is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JD Group, 2011).Company Spotlight (2012) explains that based in South Africa., the JD Group was established by David Israel Sussman in 1981 September 18th and is a mass consumer financer(Banking Business Review, 2010). The JD Group has a total of eleven brands operating through 1, 033 stores across South Africa, with one brand in Poland which is operating through 62 stores. The JD Group’s business divisions are divided into five operating facets namely; New Business Development, Financial Services, Cash Retail, Traditional Retail and International Retail(Banking Business Review, 2010). The Group’s auxiliaries comprise of Courts Megastore (Pty) Ltd, JD Group Asset Financing (Pty) Ltd, JDG Trading (Pty) Ltd, Connection Group Holdings (Pty) Ltd, JD Group International (Pty) Ltd and JD Group Asset Financing (Pty) Ltd. According to Banking Business Review (2010) the JD group top competitors include Sanlam Limited, Euro Group of Companies, Inc. PSG Group Limited, Imperial Bank Limited, and Standard Bank Group Limited(Banking Business Review, 2010). The Group operates through eleven retail brands namely; Price ‘n Pride, Electric Express, Morkels, Barnetts, Bradlows and Supreme, Hi-Fi Corp, Incredible Connection, Joshua Doore, Russels, SteinBuild and Unitrans Auto. A brief description of the first four mentioned leading furniture retail brands is given below: 1.1 Price ‘n Pride

According to the JD Annual Report (2006:32) founded n 1983 by David Israel Sussman, Price ‘n Pride is the first brand to be established in the JD Group. Price ‘n pride is located in both rural areas and urban communities across South Africa and Lesotho, it provides its consumers with products and services through its 145 outlets. To be able to accommodate for a growing mass middle market, Price ‘n Pride realigned its brand in 2001 through the upgrade of its range and store look, accordingly (JD Annual Report, 2006:32). In the year 2011 the brand was ranked number one at the Ask Afrika Orange Index Service Excellence Benchmark in the Furniture retail Category(JD Group, 2013).

1.2 Electric Express
According to the JD Annual Report (2006:22) Electrical express was founded in 1958 and acquired by the JD Group in 1993 and is operating through 126 outlets across South Africa headed by Matthew van der Waldt.
