Competency Goal 1
To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment;
A safe and healthy learning environment is essential for young children in a classroom.

One goal in the functional area of safe is to prevent and reduce injuries and still have a learning environment that is conducive to the children learning their own safe and healthy environments.
SAFE:
*My goal for young infants (birth to 8 months) is to follow safety procedures. I lay babies on their backs when they are sleeping. I make sure that the crib is free of blankets, toys, or other soft materials that could cause suffocation.
* My goals for mobile infants(9 to 17 months) I make sure that there isn't anything that is small enough on the floor that they could put in their mouths and swallow. Toys are checked daily for broken or loose parts. I check this daily before putting them down to play.
*My goals for toddlers(18 to 36 months) is to keep the environment safe for their exploration. I show them the proper way to use the toys. I encouraged them to follow safety rules such as walking instead of running and sitting on a chair instead of climbing on it. I make sure that all cleaning supplies are stored in a locked area out of reach of the children.HEALTHY:*My goals for young infants( birth to 8 months) I keep them healthy by washing their hands and also my hands   before and after every diaper change as well as sanitizing the changing table. Disposable gloves are used for each diaper change process.
*My goals for mobile infants(9 to 17 months) I keep healthy by cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily. The toys that they put into their mouths are immediately removed from the play area for later cleaning.
* My goals for   toddlers(18 to 36 months)the center provide healthy, nutritious meals that are planned . Good eating habits are modeled and I encouraged the children to eat new foods. To accomplish my goal. I eat at the table with the children to let them see me eating the same... [continues]
