To support social and emotional development and to provide positive guidance Functional Area 8: Self
To support social and emotional development and to provide positive guidance I provide a positive relationships through daily interactions of warm, loving, consistent care. I feel through this kind of care, children learn trust and security. I ensure that I am always available when the children have to separate from their parents, when they are tired, when they fall and hurt themselves, when they want to play or when they just need to be comforted or hugged. I ensure their needs are always met promptly. Each and every morning I greet each child with a smile and a "Good Morning" followed by his/her name. This makes the child feel special and welcomed. I encourage the other children in the class to say good morning as well. I encourage each child to address their class mates and I by our names. I provide opportunities for children to feel successful,and to feel proud of themselves. I offer praise when the children do something nice, us nice words or learn something new. Functional Area 9: Social

The children in my program are given opportunities to learn cooperation and social interaction. I encourage them to communicate and to get along with each other. I encourage the children to explore on their own but I am available for them whenever they need my help. I enable the children to play together whether it is through playing a simple game, reading a book, singing a song or simply on their own. Itry to engage all the children in activities and games. I try to avoid conflict by providing numerous toys, books, games and activities for the children to participate in. I encourage the children to share and take turns. Sometimes this can be a challenge, so I use positive redirection. I ensure that their environment has many options and choices in which they may choose from in order for them to build a strong sense of independence....
