Comparing and Contrasting (Essay)

Through all the evil, the suffering and starvation, something new had come and every one had played a part in it, even the traitors. I’m talking about the traitors who would sell their soul for something such as success.   In the story “The Devil and Daniel Webster,” and the movie “A Shortcut to Happiness”, there are many similarities.   First of all in the story “The Devil and Daniel Webster,” and the movie “A Shortcut to Happiness,” they had the same conflict with the characters. Other than the similarities there are also many differences.   A difference in the story “The Devil and Daniel Webster”, and the movie “A Shortcut to Happiness”, would be Jabez and Daniel Webster’s occupation. Another difference in both the story and the movie would be the contract they had when they signed over Jabez’s soul.   These are just a few of the similarities and differences in the story, “The Devil and Daniel Webster”, and the movie “A Shortcut to Happiness”.
A similarity in the story “The Devil and Daniel Webster”, and the movie “A Shortcut to Happiness”, hereafter referred to as the story and the movie, would be the main conflict with the characters. In the story and the movie, Jabez was a character who sold his soul to the devil for success.   After he realized that wasn’t the success he was looking for, he asked Daniel Webster, a character in the story, to help him get it back.   Jabez, Daniel Webster, and the devil went to court in order for Jabez to get his soul back.
One of the first of many differences between the story and the movie would be Jabez’s occupation. In the story, Jabez was an unlucky farmer who had a wife and kids.   In the movie he was an unmarried writer with no children. In the story, Daniel Webster was a lawyer, but in the movie he was a famous editor. Daniel Webster also did not have a wife or kids that we know of in either the story or movie.
