Macbeth and Othello are Shakespeare’s famous tragedies. Macbeth is a basically good man who is troubled by his conscience and loyalty though at the same time ambitious and murderous. He is led to evil initially by the witches' predictions and then by his wife's goading, which he succumbs to because he loves her so. His obsession over the kingship shows a certain kind of egotism. And Othello is a black Moor who is the greatest army general in Venice. He is intelligent, courageous, and honorable. He is married with Desdemona. But he carries on with nobility and dignity as he leads an army against Turks on Cyprus. His dedication to duty is eclipsed only by his dedication to Desdemona. So passionately does he love her that he cannot endure the thought of another man even looking at her. On one hand, the blind faith dooms Macbeth because on his way home, he found with three witches, who made him a prophecy, that said: “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!, All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!, All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!”. That mean that Macbeth is now thane of Glamis, then he will be thane of Cawdor and later on he will be king. In another prophecy, that the witches made to Macbeth said that Banquo will be the father of the king, in other words, Fliance, Banquo’s son, will be king. After he finish taking with the witches he went home and told Lady Macbeth about the prophecies. Lady Macbeth suffers none of her husband’s uncertainty. She desires the kingship for him and wants him to murder Duncan in order to obtain it. When Macbeth arrives at Inverness, she overrides all of her husband’s objections and persuades him to kill the king that very night. While Duncan is asleep, Macbeth stabs him, despite his doubts and a number of supernatural portents, including a vision of a bloody dagger. Macbeth ends killing Duncan, and he passes to the throne.
