Determination, Self-sacrifice and Family

William Shakespeare believed “Life every man holds dear; but the dear man holds honor far more precious dear than life.” We as humans have an instinctive behavior of putting our lives first but a true honorable man put his honor before hand. In “Man of Honor” Carl Brashere always put his honor before his self-being. My brother Harvey also exemplified a great deal of honor through self-sacrifice. Carl Breashere and Harvey both have showed determination and heroism, but they withhold different ideals on the importance of family values. You cannot be seen as honorable without having determination. Carl Breashere was the only African American male amongst his peers in the Bayonne, New Jersey diving school. He Faced a severe amount of racism by his colleagues, leaving numerous messages stating “Were gonna drown you nigger” and “We don’t want no nigger divers”. Although these comments could of caused him to leave the diving school, it made him even more eager to become a navy diver. Also my brother Harvey somehow was always faced with intricate situations. Knowing that he would have a child on the way at a young age he was determined that his soon to come child would be financially secure. Working two jobs and saving every dime, he was able to provide a roof over his head for his new family. Both Harvey and Carl Breashere worked extremely hard for their goals, which resulted to an outcome in their favor. In addition to determination, sacrificing yourself in order to protect someone else also shows true honor. After Carl had discovered a missing bomb for the air force he noticed a line used for towing was loose so he immediately tried to push his colleagues out the way. In return the line struck him in his left leg below the knee, nearly shearing it off. In addition at the age of seven, my brother and I were walking home...
