Comparative Analysis Poetry Paper
My view of the poem Balthazar’s Marvelous Afternoon written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is absolutely entertaining. Balthazar is a carpenter who takes pride in building a bird cage for a young boy. The time and effort put into making this bird cage has great morality results for Balthazar. Being the most beautiful bird cage people in the village has ever seen, Balthazar’s pride and extravagant praise boosts up and he is full of confidence. Ready for delivery and payment Balthazar takes it over to the boys house and finds out the parents do not approve or such request made by their young son. Deeply devastated by the refusal of the boys parents Balthazar finds his self-pride and decides to give the boy the cage for free. Balthazar later goes on and lies about payment on the bird cage and gets drunk with some of fans. The emotions Balthazar felt after completing the bird cage was a sense of relief and the reaction of people made him feel extremely special. The Doctor is persistent in his request and Balthazar tells the Doctor he is unable to sell something that has already been sold. This action goes to show how dedicated and loyal Balthazar is about his business and his clients. Emotionally I felt as if he worked hard to make a beautiful cage for a young boy and the parents did not appreciate it. This would have upset me if it would have been me working on something that someone else asked for and later to be rejected by a family member. But then again Balthazar should have asked the parents of the young boy if it was...
