                                       Community service essay         I chose to do my community service with Oviedo Citizens in Action; which took place at Mission Road Church of God in Christ. At this site, I was a volunteer camp counselor. I chose to be a volunteer at this location because I truly love working with children. It was fun to relate and adapt to the many different personalities. The children that I worked with were from the ages of five to twelve.  My career goal is to become a pediatric nurse. As a pediatric nurse it requires you to work closely with patients that are children. This experience of working with the children at the summer camp was a great opportunity for me. I feel that it was a stepping stone to achieve my future goals.           There were several mentors that worked with all the volunteers. They were very outgoing, friendly, personable, and patient. The mentors demonstrated great professionalism and shared a wealth of knowledge. They lead by example every day. The leadership that the mentors demonstrated was priceless.        The duties I performed there was always by schedule. All the volunteers had to meet at 8:00 am. At that time we would make breakfast for all of the children and wait for more campers to arrive. The campers had to arrive no later than 9:30 am. At 9:30 am we took attendance of all the children and read the rules out loud as a group. We called the rules “shine rules.” Next, we took the children outside for recess until about 10:30 am. Then, they would all wash their hands and get ready for their field trips (we had field trips about three days a week). The children were transported by two vans. We established who would ride on each van by their age. For example, age’s five to eight were transported in one van and ages nine to twelve were transported in the other.
