    Communication is important to every aspect of our daily activities.   While we need communication to function as individuals, it is also essential to be successful in group and team environments.   “…groups are often capable of producing higher quality work and better decisions than can an individual working alone” (Borchers, T., 1999).   While working on a project as an individual can be successful and gratifying, there are many advantages to having more than one person working on a project together.   Regardless if it is an educational, professional, or personal situation, a group of people functioning as one working towards the same goal with more creativity, efficiency, and organization can prove successful over one person working on their own.
    With group interaction there is the potential for geographic and time constraints that could slow progression of a project that a group is working on, which is where technology and the use of computers comes into the picture.   For example, in the educational setting, there is the need for team work on a group project.   The Bachelors Programs offered at the University of Phoenix have learning teams that requires a chosen group of students to work on one to two projects as a team throughout the course of a five week class.   While the university offers online classes, these classes also use the learning teams.   The online classroom is designed to enable students to post communication amongst each other in the discussion forum, as students can be located throughout the world.   The discussion forum is broken down even further to establish a communication environment for each learning team.   You can post a message to any of the forums any time of the day, as often as you want.   While...
