Scholarship, Practice, and Leadership
For one to be scholarly competent to contribute to the advancement in evidence -based practice, one has to demonstrate some qualities in the gathering of information. For the purpose of this paper, the nursing profession will be the focus. This is to say that information literacy influences scholarship, practice, and leadership in the nursing profession.
Gathering research information is the key vehicle that conveys the truth about evidence- based practices. In the nursing profession, some practices are considered as best practices. These practices needs evidence to proof that it is considered as best practice hence research students took it upon themselves to carry out research to proof that such practices are evidence- based practice. In her study, Russell (2009) stated that “the role of information is central to the sense-making that students engage in when they develop intellectual frameworks within disciplines” (p. 93). This is a proof fact that information literacy influences how intellectual frameworks are developed in the nursing profession. With this, the scholarship role comes into play.
A research scholar is one who is well versed in gathering information to proof to an extent that something does exist. Hence, Badke (2009) stated that “Information literacy is not remedial; it is foundational” (p. 49) This is to say that a novice cannot just gather quality and viable information to proof a practice considered as evidenced- based practice. The research scholar must have had quality foundational teachings from school on how to gather information, analyze the information using critical skill, and apply the information into practice.
