CHAPTER ONE; INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
The study focuses on communication as a means of improving organizational performance in Organizations. A case study at Reproductive Health Kabale branch Uganda. Communication is significant for managers in the organizations so as to perform the basic functions of management, i.e., Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling. Communication helps managers to perform their jobs and responsibilities. Communication serves as a foundation for planning. All the essential information must be communicated to the managers who in-turn must communicate the plans so as to implement them. Organizing also requires effective communication with others about their job task. Similarly leaders as managers must communicate effectively with their subordinates so as to achieve the team goals. Controlling is not possible without written and oral communication. Managers devote a great part of their time in communication. . They spend great time on face to face or telephonic communication with their superiors, subordinates, colleagues, customers or suppliers. Managers also use Written Communication in form of letters, reports or memos wherever oral communication is not feasible. It is pertinent to say that communication has been characterized as the life wire of any organization. Without communication, organizations don’t achieve goals. The purpose of communication in an organization is to effect change – to influence action toward the welfare of the enterprise. Communication is essential for the internal functioning of enterprises because it integrates the managerial functions. Especially communication is needed in an organization. The study will also look at the channels of communication, how communication process is from the top management to lower management. Thus, we can say that “communication is a building block of successful organizations”. In other words, communication acts as organizational blood. Hence improving organizational performance. 1.2 Statement of the problem
As the world has continued to change in terms of technology and has brought bigger impact in our development. it has also altered the role and effectiveness of communication towards organizational performance. Therefore I want to find out how communication can help organizations in developing and increasing their performance. 1.3 Purpose of the study
Communication is among the simple functions of management in any organization and its importance can hardly be overemphasized. It truly is a method of transmitting facts, ideas, thoughts, opinions and plans between different parts of an organization. It isn't probable to have human relations without communication. Even so, beneficial and successful communication is needed not only for great human relations but also for good and improving organizational performance.
