In this essay I will assess the role of effective communication and interpersonal interaction in a health and social care envoiroment. I will be using a hospital as my example. I will also review disadvantages and advantages of some forms of communication.
Effective communication and interpersonal interaction in a hospital is highly important. The best chance of having effective communication is on a one-to-one basis, in a hospital this could be in a doctor’s office where a patient/ill person is explaining what the problem is and the doctor is assessing then continuing to help the patient out. This relates to Argyles cycle of communication theory, using this theory will ensure that effective communication happens. The advantages of a one-to-one basis is that there is only focus on you and the other person, the message you want to get across will be clear and easy to understand. The disadvantages of one to one communication and interpersonal interaction can include a patient being under the influences of drink and drugs and not being able to speak correctly, having a disability such as not having the ability to hear so you will use a form of communication like flash cards or sign language and another disadvantage is the doctor may not understand the message the patient is trying to put across and the doctor taking inappropriate action about it.
