Communication and Collaboration strategies for working in a group.
Working in a group can be very rewarding if there’s strong communication and collaboration among the team. Different learning styles can be effective in a group such as Verbal/Linguistic, Logical/Mathematical, and Visual/Spatial as long as there is ways to communicate between the different styles. Depending on the teams task there are many ways these different learning styles can benefit each other. Assignments given with very detailed written instructions can be explained verbally buy the linguistic student allowing the logical student to take outlined notes and the spatial student to hear as well as read the instructions. No matter what learning styles is in a group “Poor communication can sabotage the team's best efforts, leaving people feeling frustrated, helpless, indignant, overlooked, and ineffective.” (Wee, Morse, 2007). The best strategies a group can have regardless of the learning styles are to start the communication within the group early, discuss what their likes and dislikes in a learning environment are an assign tasks that benefits there styles. Another effective strategy for building effective communication in a group is to understand all learning styles. “When you study with others, understanding of diverse learning styles will help you assign tasks effectively, learn more comprehensively, communicate more successfully, and appreciate different perspectives.” (Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2007).
While working in group not everyone will have the same learning style or personality, having different personalities in a group can be very rewarding.
