You are the communication officer of a hospital for treating cancers. There are concerns that the incidence of breast cancer in women aged 15-45 years is increasing, and a new drug has just been approved for treatment of breast cancer. Initial large international trials of the drug have indicated that it is safe and more effective in treating breast cancer than presently used drugs. As the communications officer, you are tasked with disseminating information on the new drug to inform doctors to prescribe it to patients with breast cancer.
1. Analyse the methods you would use to promote prescription of the new drug by doctors for patients with breast cancer in your hospital.
In order to consider the methods of communicating with regards to the promotion of the new drug, it is relatively important to first know what the objective of the plan is. Based on my personal experience the most essential way to disseminating information is through influencing the public regarding a certain topic. It is how we make the information easy to access and it should be available to each individual’s convenience.
According to National Prevention Information Network (n.d.), “Health communication can take many forms, both written and verbal. Essential to any effective health communication effort is strategic planning.”[i] Therefore in this point of view, it is important to strategize the different means and ways to effectively communicate. As discussed on their website, there is a need to put into consideration the audience and as for this report the main group of persons involved are doctors. Usually in this type of scenario, one of the best methods to extend this information is through a medical conference. It is very important for doctors to discuss the different special contraindication of the new drug. Giving out leaflets and media advertising would not entirely cover all the queries that doctors would be having regarding the new drug.... [continues]
