Abortion- Another Name for Murder or a Desperate Choice
Many women it today’s world have found themselves in a position of deciding whether to have an abortion or not. This should be a decision made privately without the influences of bias opinions. Sadly if women decide that an abortion is the best choice for their life situation, they have to endure the judgment of society; they believe that women who receive an abortion have committed murder of a child. The judgments on women are made without considering the reason or story behind their decision. Women should have the right to do what they want with their own body, despite what society feels is ethically correct. Abortion should not be used as a form of birth control or an excuse to be irresponsible but as an option to correct an unexpected situation. If women didn’t have the option to abort they would be forced to have a child they are not ready for. Forcing women to do what society feels is the right thing is metaphorically raping them of the right to choose their own fate.
Receiving an abortion is not murder of an unborn child; it is a desperate choice women in society unfortunately have to make because of special circumstances. According to Lewis, M., and Tamparo, C. (2007). “Most definitions of abortion refer to the viability of a fetus. Viability means capacity for living and generally refers to a fetus that has reached a certain gestational age and weight and is capable of living outside the uterus. In past years it meant 24 gestational weeks or greater than 500 grams.
