A College Experience
I recently enrolled myself at San Antonio College for the Fall 2010 semester and have started classes. Going to college is new to me. I am really looking forward to being successful in college and learning as much as I can while I am in college. The main reason I enrolled myself in college is to better myself. Learning responsibility, being prepared, and setting new goals are some ways College can help me better myself.
Many of us make poor decisions that can ultimately have a devastating effect on our lives; I was one of these. In 1997, with only one and a half credits to graduate, I dropped out of the 12th grade. I decided to work instead of finish school. After 13 years, I soon realized that I had made a big mistake. In January 2010 I decided to enroll in a G.E.D. program. On June 18, 2010, I was awarded a G.E.D. certificate. My emotions ran high, knowing that I had given myself an opportunity to further my education and secure my future.
Before I started at SAC, I had to prepare myself. The first thing I did was to purchase the required books for each course. The book titles are as follows: The Community College Experience Plus by Amy Baldwin, Para Siempre by Marta G. Montemayor, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra by Alan S. Tussy, A Pocket Style Manual by Diana Hacker, and The Bedford Guide for College Readers by X.J. Kennedy. Next, I bought supplies needed for college. I purchased pens, pencils, highlighters, folders, binders, and a notebook. I also had to get a backpack. All of this is very new to me. My transportation is limited, so I needed a bus pass. This required me to get my student I.D. and save up $35. As soon as I did this, I took my I.D. and my money to the Via Metropolitan Center and purchased a bus pass. Finally, I bought proper attire for college. This consisted of nice dress shirts, pants, and shoes. All this preparation has improved my life by giving me discipline needed to prepare for college.
