Have you ever felt that you had to show your United States passport just to prove to society that you aren’t illegal? Although no one has asked me to show him or her my passport I have always had the feeling that they wouldn’t believe me just because of my skin color and of my race. To be portrayed as an illegal immigrant has many disadvantages one society automatically thinks that I have a criminal background; two societiy believes that just because of my skin color I can’t get a good education and become someone in life, and lastly being a female Hispanic automatically makes me a statistic.
For people to automatically think that I have a criminal background, or have a family member in a criminal background is really devastating. Especially, when I have proven to society no matter, how young that I am. I have proved that I am capable to be a true citizen of the United States. Yet, no matter how much I have worked hard, society still portrays this image that people of my ethnicity to automatically have a criminal background. Although statistics may show that people of my ethnicity are the ones to most likely have a criminal background it doesn’t mean that all of us are same. When portrayed to have this image one, as a person tends to lose hope in society, because although this has happened before with the African Americans one would believe that it wouldn’t happen again. Thou society never seems to understand and just accept people for whom they are.
When you feel that society doesn’t believe that you can become someone in life, or you can’t enhance your education you lose hope. You don’t just lose hope in yourself you lose hope in life. Especially, when you have so many people such as family members, friends… etc., you just let them down. Although one would say who doesn’t believe in you, when you have all these people having faith in you, to become someone.
