My name is Jocelyn Vera. I am currently a 10th grader attending Todd
beamer high school. it is now October and Halloween is just around the corner,
I wont be dressing up to go out trick-or-treating since my religion has its beliefs
about it and we don’t celebrate it. I look out my window and see the wind
blowing the leaves off the trees, I can see and hear the rain drops hit my
window. ever since I moved to federal way last summer I’ve noticed this time
of year and up till mid summer it pours rain but that doesn’t stop me from
being happy and enjoying the day in any possible way I can still go out and do
school activities, church activities (patherfinders club), and even friends.
About two weeks ago my parents and I drove up to Seattle to visit my
step dad's boss and his wife. they had been wanting to sit down with me and
discuss what my plans for my future were. they asked me many questions one
was where I wanted to end up in life. I responded "I have seen I am into
cosmetology and I really want to become a RN(registered nurse). they
suggested to me you should get to know your teachers and counselors, talk to
the counselors in your school and be informed of ever the smallest scholarships
or activities or clubs not well known but that colleges are interested in.
colleges want to see that you are involved, have experience, and do
community service, good grades and more. they really opened my mind and
cleared my mind up of what I should do. I now know I should use all my
resources possible and not fall back in classes, there is help out there you just
need to ask and be informed. this is a turning point in my life I’ve spent my
afternoons doing my work and catching up, I am now staying after, and It is a
lot easier now. I know I will get to where I want to be in life as a RN. Now all
that matters is that I can get into college whether its in state or out of state.... [continues]
