During the cold war years there was too much hysteria. Not only in the United States but the whole world had its fears. In our case the United States fears were the spread of communism, nuclear technology and the US economy (A).The administration of President Dwight Eisenhower address this fears in a successful way his major concern was the safety of the people. One of the major fears that I believe the people had was the spread of communism at home. On 1954 Eisenhower said that the fear “unwise investigators” (A) I believe he refers to McCarthy, HUAC, and Loyalty Investigations. The HUAC was the organization that stated the search for communism McCarthy started to investigate communism so much that that he accused people of being communist and being in communist parties. Thousands of people lost their job, suffered the destruction of their careers and even went to jail. McCarthy had people blind they couldn’t see past the fact of the fear that they had. In small cities libraries had to take out books because people didn’t like the fact that they had something communist in them or soviet and if you went against it then you were simply communist too. McCarthy fell down by his own Flaws and the army McCarthy interviews. The second major fear about communism that I believe people had was the spread of communism in the world. George Kennan came up with the idea of containment (a United States policy using military, economic, and diplomatic strategies to stall the spread of communism, enhance America’s security and influence abroad). Dulles expresses the concern about communism expanding to the Americas. (B) The situation in Guatemala makes the United States nervous because if an American State declares that it is communism then it would be a threat to all American States. Like the Monroe doctrine the United States must look out for its good neighbor. Eisenhower did all that was possible to him so that there was no communism in this side of the world. The fear...
