Road to Discipleship Starting with A: DISCIPLESHIP COUNSELING Abstract
This assignment uncovers and deals with four important issues that are needed to begin your walk as a disciple for Christ. These four ideas are stated by Dr. Neil T. Anderson. In the realm of Godly counseling it is important to know and understand the difference between Christian and worldly counsel. The first topic of discussion will be AUTHORITY, understanding your power in the sight of God. The second topic is ACCOUNTABILITY. This is important because keeping an abundance of checks and balances in your life is a need not a luxury. The next topic is AFFIRMATION. As a human race constant confirmation is so essential to self confidence. This is a mechanism God put in the race to be a reassurance that the correct course is being taken. He often rewards Christians in some form to reinforce his affirmation. Finally ACCEPTANCE, when believers whole heartedly give in to the work of discipleship the work of a disciple for Jesus can begin! Within all four of these topics our strongest muscle will be constantly at work; the mind. Everything starts and finishes there. Road to Discipleship Starting with A: DISCIPLESHIP COUNSELING Authority
Without authority there is no power, no order, and no law. It is easy to understand why this concept to become a disciple is necessary. There are two types of authority. The first type is intrinsic. This type of authority is one that belongs to ones essential nature. The other kind is derived authority, this power is given to someone from another source Authority can be born into, passed on, or given to, and assumed due to physical stature. Secular views on authority will often hinder the journey to becoming a disciple for Jesus. People lose their self into the cares of themselves, jobs, or even possessions. In doing so, they never find their true holistic purpose. Secular authority is often manipulated and limited to a specific arena. Thinking that authority is good, bad, or indifferent only has an earthly effect. Individuals often don’t understand the total impact of the power. Authority was created by God. With that being stated, He alone has the power to hand out authority. Since there is no authority except from God, every kind of authority other than that of God Himself is derived and therefore secondary to God’s power. (New Illustrated Bible Dictionary, 1995) God also created humanity, He is the inventor. It is only in God that we discover our origin, our identity, our meaning, our purpose, our significance, and our destiny. Every other path leads to a dead end. (Purpose Driven Life, 2002) Anderson explains that many people have been taught that there are natural explanations for everything, therefore a scientific answer for all things. (P36) This lie has the world deceived and has allowed many people to live life without faith. Science has crippled many individual’s mind. With the mind being the most powerful muscle in the human body this set the course of failure and deception. The large majority of humanity will not believe what cannot be scientifically proven. Anderson states that you have to relentlessly strive to get people to agree that the bible is the standard to live by and with that foundation you can focus on the true authority and can begin to let God work.

Accountability, this is something that gets many people in trouble. No matter if you are a Christian or an unbeliever of God this issue shows no respect of person. The secular realm of belief has catered to a standard of living only for self glorification. Asking the...
