The first company that conducted its operation in the soft drink industry was Coca-Cola. They brought a new revolution in the history of the world. Coca-Cola is the most popular and biggest-selling soft drink in history, as well as the best-known product in the world. Coca-Cola invented in May 1886 by Dr. John S. Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. The name 'Coca-Cola' was suggested by Dr. Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank Robinson. He kept the name Coca-Cola in the flowing script that is famous today. Coca-Cola was first sold at a soda fountain by mixing Coca-Cola syrup with carbonated soda in Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta by Willis Venable. During the first year, sales of Coca-Cola averaged nine drinks a day, adding up to total sales for that year of $50.Since the year's expenses were just over $70, Dr. Pemberton took a loss. Today, products of The Coca-Cola Company are consumed at the rate of more than one billion drinks per day. In 1893, Coca Cola was registered in the United States and then further investment was put into it to expand the business. To handle the enormous capacity of its business, the Coca Cola Company has divided up into six operating units: Middle and Far East Groups, Europe, The Latin America Group, The North America, The Africa Group and The Minute Maid Company. The Head Quarters is situated in the United States. The country that I'm going to be concentrating on is the United Kingdom and how the company works in the U.K.Throughout the history of the world’s most popular soft drink, advertising for Coca-Cola has followed the trends of time. Coca-Cola’s advertising slogans are memorable and create lasting impressions. Since the first slogan was introduced in 1886 ‘Delicious and refreshing’. The overall theme has been refreshment- one of the pleasant things in life, distinctive and available nearly everywhere. Motto followed the lead to make Coca-Cola the best known soft drink in the world. Today, motto for Coca-Cola and the company’s other products are carefully aimed towards individual tastes while understanding the universal appeal of refreshment. And very appropriately, the company has globally launched its new motto Theme –“Enjoy Coca-Cola”.
Present Day Coca-Cola
As of now, Coca-Cola has been doing as well as it ever has been. In 2006, Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Enterprises were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 on Fortune 500's list of best beverage companies. It has been ranked as one of the top companies to work for. As of 2000, it was the top-ranked soda in the United States.
Coke has also come a long way from just their original formula. In the 1980's, they introduced diet Coke (lowercase "d" to emphasize that it's still Coke). As of 2000, it was the most popular diet drink. In the 90's Coca-Cola came out with all kinds of different flavored beverages, such as Vanilla Coke, Cherry Coke and Sprite.
Atlanta, Ga. remains the home of Coca-Cola. Downtown Atlanta houses The World of Coca-Cola, a museum dedicated to the life and popularity of the beverage. The museum houses the world's largest collection of Coke memorabilia, as well as a drink station that allows visitors to drink Coke products from around the world.
Coke's current advertising campaign is "The Coke Side of Life." The theme is one that Coke has used time and time again, but it still manages to be effective. It's the simple, "enjoy life" approach that usually seems to work for them. Keeping up with the times, Coke also launched a viral marketing campaign on the internet.
Coke is a driving force in the global market, and its taste has a familiarity to it that almost everyone can relate to. Some even say that Coca-Cola is patriotic, that it's one of the things that is truly American. As long as the public retains their taste for the familiar, Coca-Cola will have a place in markets everywhere.
