Compare and Contrast Essay
The use of drugs has increased in these past few years. They threaten communities all around the world because of how they affect the organs of the body and their functions. Crack and cocaine are two of these dangerous drugs. It is important for us teens to have information about them in order to deal with any problems related to their use that people may experience. These two drugs look similar at first but they have three big differences. Crack and cocaine have three similar effects on the body. Although crack is heat resistant and cocaine is damaged by heat, both cause hypertension. Also, crack and cocaine bring about physical and mental damage, depending on pre-existing conditions and the amount of drug used. Hallucination, insanity, paranoia and aggressive behavior can occur, and an overdose of either may cause heart failure or a seizure. Finally, use of both drugs can lead to addiction. Although crack and cocaine have similarities, they also have three big differences. First, crack and cocaine are made from the coca plant, they are different in form. Crack has the form of flakes and cocaine is found in the form of powder, so it can be dissolved. Also, crack and cocaine both contain cocaine, but in many sizes, crack contains as much as 90% pure cocaine but cocaine contains from 15-20% pure cocaine. Another big difference is how they enter the body. Crack is smoked in a pipe or cigarette. It enters the body by the lungs into the bloodstream. Cocaine is inhaled as a powder or is injected if melted. It is snorted through the nose into the bloodstream or if it is injected it goes straight to the bloodstream. In conclusion, we can see that these two drugs are alike in three ways and different in three ways. They affect the body in similar ways.
