After assessing the current situation with information technology at Club IT, I conducted a formal interview with one of the owners, Ruben Keys. He expressed his concern with finding improved methods to provide better service with Club IT’s customers as well as upgrading its supply chain management system. With this information, I examined three current business problems with the systems that are already in place and determined the best type of analysis and development methodology to use.
The first business issue, and possibly the most important, is the dial-up Internet connection. As compared to most connection alternatives, dial-up is extremely slow. It has 100s of times slower downloading capabilities and takes hours longer to make updates and changes to the website. A dial-up connection is also limited in its quantity of users at the same time. For example, if a customer makes a purchase with a credit card, the validation process cannot be used simultaneously with the Internet. This also holds true for using the club’s ground line. A phone call cannot be made when somebody else is on the Internet.
Club IT’s website uses an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and a transaction processing system (TPS). Although the ERP system can integrate most of the functional areas of the organization such as the staff and management, accounting and finance figures, and some human resources help, it contains several flaws.   Along with their ERP system, the TPS system, which keeps their information available in one place, both for their employees and their customers, contains many issues as well. The following lists the business problems that arise with Club IT’s outdated website system.
