Club IT Part 1
As the intern hired to perform a full analysis of the IT needs for Club IT, my duties are to view the status of the IT system currently in place to fulfill the mission of the club that is: "We, Ruben and Lisa, offer you live music, DJ's, dance space and refreshments that suit your lifestyle. You are our friends, and we seek to build a community that meets regularly at Club IT" (higheredbcs, ). A full understanding is needed of the clubs transaction processing system, enterprise resource system, office automation system, management information system, decision support system, expert system, executive dashboard, supply chain management system and electronic commerce system. Once a full understanding of current systems is acquired, I will then be able to offer suggestions to increase productivity and efficiency in all the club’s systems through new and better software and hardware and outsourcing options.
After taking the position of intern, offered by the owners Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada, for the full analysis of the information needs for Club IT, it was a necessary to witness the club in full action. I attended a standard Friday night to gain a better understanding of how the club operates with the current IT solution in place. The club is visually stunning after the new remodel Ruben and Lisa have just finished, and this draws the crowds in, but the antiquated transaction processing system slows down transactions and keeps patrons waiting. Three waitresses run the floor that consists of 14 booths and 14 tables, and the bar that is attended by three bartenders, has two service stations, and one wait station. All drink and food transactions are managed from these three locations at the bar.
The club not only offers live music but also prides itself on maintaining the largest MP3 collection of the best, newly released, hip-hop, techno, and electronica music around. To maintain this ever-growing selection of MP3’s, the club has a... [continues]
