Clinical Experience Reflective Essay
ASSIGNMENT: REFLECTIVE ESSAY
Due Date: Week 13
Final Reflection:
Final Reflection
As another semester comes to an end, it is a good time to reflect on your experiences and your learning. To summarize your experiences in this course, we would like you to write up a 5-10 page paper about your experiences in this class.
It should address three main areas:
1. Your newly acquired knowledge of practical nursing. Think back to when you started this course; think about what you knew about practical nursing. Describe what you learned and what you would still like to learn. This section should describe how your ideas about 1 or 2 topics changed as a result of taking this course. Were they topics you misunderstood previously that you feel you understand better now? Were they topics that you felt were not relevant to your life that you are glad you learned more about? How has learning about these topics affected your thinking about practical nursing or interprofessional practice in general?
2. Newly acquired knowledge about you as a learner. This section should describe your experiences as a student in this course. What did you do well as a student in this course and what did not go quite as well as you expected? What advice will you give yourself as you take on other courses?
136 George Brown College Practical Nursing COURSE NAME: Practical Nursing Clinical Applications I COURSE CODE: NURS 1029
3. Personal reflection. This section should address your personal experiences in the course. What did you learn about yourself as a person? If you could look at yourself through the eyes of your professor, what would you want your professor to know about your growth as a person, a student and a student practical nurse over the course of the semester? Describe one challenge you faced in this course and how you handled it (did you overcome it? How? If not, why not?)

Process:
1. Using 3 resources/ professional journals linked to practical nursing or interprofessional

When I call to make an appointment at the Doctor’s office, I expect them to answer the phone very nice and respectfully. As a medical assistant, you should always have your patient’s become first they should never be last. Upon talking to the phone with the doctor’s office, I think they should know the knowledge of the office and the producers. I do think that each MA has their own set of skills and qualities. As a MA we should always put others first as I said earlier and also we should treat them how we want to be treated. If a patient gets rude and disrespectful with us on the phone we should just keep a positive attitude until the call is finished. We as a MA should always be attentive to the person, we should ask what works best for…

The community I grew up in deep in the heart of Austin, Texas celebrated my heritage, honored differences in culture, and fostered personal growth and self-discovery. My parents, with the strong work ethic they developed on their family’s farms in Ghana, encouraged my brother and me to work hard and find ways to use my skills to be of service to others. My experiences engaging with the communities that I have lived inspire me to become a physician dedicated to finding the most effective ways to communicate with my patients and improve their health outcomes in different types of environments. I first worked in health care locally during the summer after my sophomore year of college when I volunteered at the People’s Community Clinic. It was there that I got my first look at direct health interventions through making health education materials in the…

By utilizing the information presented in this class, I was able to learn, apply and document via a written paper information on Erikson’s developmental stages and Butler’s Life Review. I was able to practice my interviewing skill during my interview of R.V. The take away I had with his interview is that it takes work to be successful and you have to have balance in your life. It may not come when you are at the peak of working or during education, but you must find the balance. I have enjoyed my time in this class and I will use he skills that I have learned and I will apply the information that I read as I enter into my practice as a nurse and hopefull as a nurse…

As long as I can remember I have always loved to learn new things. When I began my journey back in 2005 to pursue a degree I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to focus on. What I found amazing was shortly after starting college my love for learning grew exponentially. Today nearly 10 years later I am close to realizing my goal of earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing. When I reflect on how much I have learned over this past year I am so grateful for the learning opportunities that the Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Western Governor University has brought to my life and to my career as a Registered Nurse. The artifacts in my portfolio are the evidence that my program of study has prepared me to be proficient in such areas of professional nursing as, patient safety, nursing research, evidence-base practice, quality of care, effective leadership, and community health. My Leadership Practicum enabled me to discover a healthcare concern on the unit that I work on. In collaboration with team members, we were able to come up with successful solutions that were supported by evidence based research. My Community Health and Population Practicum course required me to broaden my communication skills with others. This course brought me the knowledge and experience that I needed to be proficient in communicating with patients, colleagues, and professionals in the community.…

The topic I chose to explore further from the previous lectures was professional nursing organizations. What interested me about this topic is the fact that there are a plethora of professional organizations that are each unique to a specific goal or outcome that the organization wishes to improve upon in the nursing profession. Obtaining a minor in psychology has also made me appreciate the mental health aspect of treating and caring for a patient or client on a daily basis. After finding an article about advance practice psychiatric nurses and the international society of psychiatric nurses (ISPN), I read how they were creating a vision to diversify their organization by educating how to become culturally competent and how they may be able to put to use these values in practice. This article definitely reeled me in as it covered most of what we covered in class including a professional organization, cultural competency, and even evidence-based practice.…

In almost every English class, the transition from midterm to final term is not quite easy. In this class final term, ENG 121, I have practiced my writing skills continuously with the process and writing from analysis of printed ad to the complicated argumentative essay. I have found that the final was more complicated even though the idea and the processes in the midterm had a great help in the processes and writing in the second term writings. For instance, the idea of finding or creating a topic sentence, developing details, and reasoning and concluding the essay were part of the things that had a great help for the final semester.…

Describe connections you have made between your prior knowledge and what you have learned in this course. How has this course helped you to understand the ideas in new or different ways? How has your pursuit of your specific goal helped in this course and/or other courses? One of my goals I had set myself in the beginning as helped me to keep striving. I did not do so well on the midterm so I am working to pass my final with a good grade. Therefore, throughout this course I have had determination with passing this course with a good grade. I have learned situations I have never heard of before. For example, the bathroom bill left me speechless. I had never heard of this situation before until it was brought up into the course. Going more into details and hearing other people’s opinions, it was very interesting. This course has helped me to understand that a lot of things are going on in this world that we are not familiar with. It has helped me to understand that it is very important to know what is going on in the government and to watch the news…
