Food Aversion

A food aversion that I came across is when I went to a family thanksgiving dinner and my mom and grandma made sweet potatoes.   My parents knew that I wasn’t fond of sweet potatoes but they made me eat them if I wanted to be excused from the table. I didn’t want to eat them, but my mom forced me to, and I threw up.

Emotional Experience

An emotional experience that I have had was when I was moving from Hawaii and I washed my hands with this soap that had a lavender smell. Now every time I smell lavender, I get sad and start to miss my friends in Hawaii again.

Childhood Learning Experience

One childhood learning experience I’ve had was whenever I would be disrespectful to my parents I would get spanked on the butt with a paddle. But if I was good and responded with “yes mom” or “yes dad” and didn’t talk back and did my chores then I would get a treat for dessert or a piece of candy or something. I think that this is an example of positive punishment, because my parents’ spanking me wasn’t taking away anything. It made me try harder to be good, because I knew if I was good I would get a treat.
The correct reinforcement to this experience would be a fixed-ratio schedule because every time I was bad, I was spanked, and every time I was good, I was awarded.

Bandura’s model of observational learning

A situation in my life where I have learned something by using this model was when my family lived in California and my brothers decided that they wanted to take Karate. I didn’t, until I saw my brothers break boards with their hands. I saw how the people around them reacted and how everyone was amazed and impressed, so I decided I wanted to take karate also.
