I. NAME OF PLACE/AREA

BARANGAY BARANGKA ILAYA
CITY OF MANDALUYONG

II. GENERAL INFORMATION

One of the top five (5) income earners in terms of revenue out of 27 barangays and a highly urbanize barangay in Mandaluyong.

A. HISTORY

From its creation as a barangay Barangka on 1946, it was under the leadership of a “Tiniente del Barrio” by then Alejandro “Beyok” Intalan Sr. The term “Tiniente del Baryo” was then change to “Kapitan del Baryo” or Barangay Captain and then to present as Barangay Chairman. After the death of Barangay Captain Alejandro “Beyok” Intalan Sr. on 1988. He is supposed to be succeded by the no. one (1) barangay Councilman Ernesto Sanchez, but was already on abroad. It was barangay Councilwoman Emma Villegas who succeed. The said succession of Brgy. Chairwoman Emma Villegas was short lived because she didn’t seek an option to run in the 1989 Barangay Election. It was Barangay Captain Carmelito “Mel” Gonzaga who won in the said election and his term was up to July 2002. It is now under the leadership of Barangay Chairwoman Luisa C. Pangilinan, who emerged victorious in the July 15, 2002 Barangay Election.

B. BOUNDARIES

From North, the boundary lies at Barangay Buayang Bato. From West, the boundary lies at Barangay Malamig. From East, Barangay Guadalupe Viejo of Makati City, and from the South, Barangay Barangka Itaas.

C. DISTANCE

It has a land area of around 34 hectares.

D. DISTANCE TO MAJOR POINTS

From the present Barangay Hall at Pinatubo St., cor. Barangka Ilaya to City Hall, around one and a half Kilometer (1.5 km). To the Primary School (Ilaya Barangka
