Elective Classes in Bachelor's Degree
Unit 4 Assignment- Part II

1. Why have you chosen the elective classes included in your degree plan? If you are a Bachelor’s Degree student, why have you selected your emphasis area? I chose the elective classes, because I plan on becoming a human service advocate in law for juveniles to change the culture of the youth destruction. My emphasis are very much congruent to my electives in so many ways because I will need a little bit of all my majors and electives to become what I set out to be.

2. What skills and knowledge do you expect to learn from these classes? If you are using transfer credits, what skills and knowledge have you learned from those courses? I plan on gaining life skills in human services in order for me to be successful I must the basics plus more to become a great employee. I have a few transferred credits but they weren’t compatible to my major at all, but they came in hand because I finished my degree sooner than I thought.

3. Think back to the jobs that you searched in Unit 2 and the goals that you created for yourself in Unit 3. How will your knowledge from the jobs that you researched and the courses that you are selecting, as well as your knowledge about the human services field impact your career and educational goals? It will impact my goals in a positive way, because it has given me a different route on what I wanted to do as a career. But Human Services has given me a new outlook on what I rather do in this particular field.

Academically, the school system has always provided me the tools so that I could learn, but outside the traditional high school classroom, there is a myriad of opportunities where knowledge can be obtained. The summer before my senior year in high school the opportunity to take classes at the University of Louisville was bequeathed upon me. My parents guided me into possibly taking core content material classes, for example, math or science. However, there was a wide range of classes in which I could partake in, but the ones which caught my attention were in the Sociology department. Although my parents were not thrilled with my decision of taking leisurely courses which were possibly not going to count towards my future major in college, I felt it was the intelligent decision.…

Hello Dr. Aaron Oberman and fellow classmates. I’m excited to be taken this course because I’m almost at the finish line of completing my degree. I have been working in social services for almost 15 years helping adults meeting their needs while aiming at becoming self-sufficient. I enjoy my job, but I’m burned out, meaning my job no longer brings me the same satisfactions as it did 15 years ago. I reevaluated my life giving consideration to my age, family and happiness and decided it was time for a career change. As an undergrad student, I recall an instructor telling us in life most people will have a job and a career. Social Services is currently my job and school counseling will be my career. With age I have learned helping others…

The motivational reasoning for people to take on a lifelong career in human services depends on the individual. There are different motivational reasons, of course, but they can be narrowed down to three major categories. The desire to work as a helper, desire for self exploration, and exerting control within society are the most recognized reasons of motivation. The next five paragraphs support the notion that the women in Learning Team “B” have different, (yet very similar) reasons for joining the human services force.…

My initial reaction to the Human Services program philosophy as it reflects the university’s mission statement is that Athabasca University has it as a mission to make university education attainable to all irrespective of their culture, age and academic background. I continue to understand, from the program philosophy, that the university has taken it as a point of duty to avail working professionals in Human Services field the opportunity to complete a degree program in the comfort of their homes while still working actively. In a not shell, The Human Services program philosophy and mission statement both support students’ academic success by creating a supportive learning environment for students to easily get access or to connect with…
