The story and characters that was chosen was “Where Are You Going Where Have You been.” The character Connie is a 15 year old teenager who doesn’t get along with her mother. She always fussing at her about staying in the mirror so much, her mother wants her to be like her sister June but, her parents showed her sister more attention than her. Happiness would not come to Connie by spending time with her family, or by going out her friends, happiness only came to Connie when she heard “the” music. The theme for this short story that Joyce carol Oates illustrates that “loss of innocence “will always change one’s perspective on life, and the things around him or her. The world is not what it seems to be, you have to be careful, especially when you are young teenage girl. Connie spends most of her evenings picking up boys at a restaurant, and one evening captures the attention of a stranger in a gold convertible covered with cryptic writing.Connie also thought she could control men with her beauty; she tried hard with doing it. Connie wasn’t normal she wasn’t doing the normal things what most teenage girls would do but instead she feels the need to get attention from boys. She loved listening to rock and roll music. But on one particular day she was home alone, it seems like it was a dream to her but it was real. A car pulled up in her drive way, it was a gold convertible covered with cryptic writing. There were two men one of them stepped out the car his name is named Arnold friend. Arnold friend looks like the type of guy who has the ability to combine romance and violence, that's the reason why Connie is falling for him. His appearance is less than impressive indeed, he looks strange enough to suggest that he has a mental problem or is even somehow otherworldly. He...
