Chivalry Needing a Comeback
The news of a school shooting is normal in today’s world, but in the 1950’s this event would be a national tragedy. Chivalry is a medieval system and principals of knighthood that was establish in the middle ages of 1250- 1300 A.D. According to a recent study by said that 50 percent of marriages will end of divorce because of infidelity. The media is where many people get their source of entertainment such as the internet, television or magazines, but has the media been depicting an appropriate society? In 2008 the United States almost went into recession, many claim it’s because of a corrupt society and government. The definition of chivalry by is “the combination of qualities expected of an ideal knight, espcourage, honour, justice, and a readiness to help the weak.” Chivalry has multiple codes that a knight must follow such as protect the weak, respect and honor women, fear god and maintain the church, and to always speak the truth. It was very important that someone would follow these laws because many people were strong believers in religion. Christianity was the largest religion during that time and the belief of Christianity is that following god and obeying God would give that person the gift of eternal life in Heaven. Heaven is described by Christianity to be a holy, pure, and a free from sin kingdom that was made by God. In the middle ages it was to win the favors of worthy women that men adhered to a higher standard of social behavior. Courtesy, honor, generosity and  faithfulness became as important as a superior warrior.  This code of chivalry made a man a knight and worthy of love to a woman, otherwise he was considered a brute with a sword.
