Children Should Start School Younger Than They Do Now
Children Should Start School Younger Than They Do Now

There is no doubt that parents want the best for their children. Some of them believe that children should stay at home or go to kindergartens until they are seven years old. Others think that it is important for kids to go to school as soon as possible. According to the statistics, our brain gets damaged as we grow old. As a child we have a capability to memorize anything quickly. So, it is really important to send children to school early and let them use their brain for all it is worth. Moreover, going to school early means finishing it at an early age. Is it an advantage, however? As far as this point is concerned, I think, we should follow the example of the USA. American children finish their school at the age of 18-19. Thus, they are already mature enough to make up their mind, to choose their future occupation. As for the Russian children, they are only 16-17 years old when they find themselves at a crossroads. They haven’t understood yet what they want to be, so they do what they’re told by their parents. As a result, they realize later that they entered not the university they wanted, and studied “not their scene”. In addition to that, by sending your child to school earlier you “steal” a year (or more) of his/her childhood, real and careless childhood. It may have a bad effect on children in the future and bring them a psychological trauma. So, if you ask me, I would never send my child to school earlier than at 7 years old. If you want my honest opinion, 5- and 6-year-old kids should play with dolls and toy cars instead of sitting at the desks at

Many people think that early school start times are helpful for our teens. For instance kids will have more time after school if it ends early and students will have more time to complete homework and take part in extracurricular activities because of this. Teens also may have to work after school and by ending school later they may not be able to get to their work on time, thus hurting their families. Some argue that starting school early also prepares teens for adulthood, due to the fact that most jobs tend to have the similar work hours. Furthermore, later high school start times can cause trouble for parents’ work schedules, because they may not be able to drop and pick their kids up before and after school. Later school start times may also be expensive, mainly because the bus schedule for students in the morning and evening must change to accommodate a different school schedule. Changing a school start time can also cause resistance from students who don't want their after school activities to change. Additionally, students will have less time to access public resources such as libraries if schools ended an hour later. Also if a school changes its schedule all the schools around it would have to change its after school activities to adjust, for instance if two school teams wanted to play each other, deciding on a game time would be difficult due to the fact that they have different schedules. A students life can also get affected. By ending school later they may not be able to be with friends, more time will be spent on homework than on free time. Finally, families may have their own activities after…

One reason we should not start school later is because of the lack of time students are left with after school. Coming home to a mountain of homework is a lot of pressure, especially when you must start it late in the afternoon. Justin O’neill from Scholastic Scope article, “Should schools start later?” agrees with this. He says, “Starting school later means dismissing school later. This can interfere with bus schedules, after school activities, and family time” (20). This demonstrates that the amount of time lost in the morning adds up, and it interferes with your personal life. But that is not…
