Research Question:How does parental alcoholism affect children?

Thesis:Parental alcoholism causes a child to experience psychological problems that not only affects them at a young age, but carries over to their adult life also.

I. Children of Alcoholics mostly live in dysfunctional families A. Family tends to be chaotic and unpredictable.
B. Children tend to experience more problems with codependency. II. Children of Alcoholics tend to have difficulty in school. A. Statistics show that children in alcoholic families score lower on test. B. Children of Alcoholics have harder times bonding with peers. III. Children of Alcoholics psychological problems do not stop when the child is an adult. A. Children of Alcoholics usually turn into habitual liars. B. Children of Alcoholics are known to become alcoholics as adults.

Children of Parental Alcoholism
An estimated 6.6 million children under the age of 18 years live in households with at least one alcoholic parent (Children of Alcoholics/Substance Abuse). Alcoholism, also known as a “family disease” can have many harmful effects. Alcoholism can vary from age, background, social group, income level, or educational level. It is known that alcoholism affects children educationally and socially. Children of alcoholics are more at risk for alcoholism and drug abuse; the psychological scars can carry long into adulthood. Parental alcoholism causes a child to experience psychological problems that not only affects them at a young age, but carries over to their adult life also.
