Children and Media
"A report released by the education non-profit organizations Joan Ganz Cooney Center and Sesame Workshop has found that nearly 80% of children between the ages of 0 and 5 use the internet on a weekly basis." Why should this worry you? Children and teens who use the internet frequently are shown to have more narcissistic tendencies, "while young adults who use the internet regularly show signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial personality disorder, mania, and antisocial proclivities." If it is not obvious to you already, over usage of the internet, and usage of it by children, negatively affects their future, and damages their ability to function normally.

Children who excessively use the internet and social networking sites lack social skills, and do not develop the proper communicative experience to grow socially. "A report from the National School Boards Association shows that children in the tween to teen age group that use social networking 41% spend their time posting messages, instead of spending time face-to-face and establishing necessary social skills for future success." Much like every other aspect of life, if you do not practice, you will not improve. The internet is addicting children at a young age and hooking them onto social networking and online video games, where they do not have to communicate face to face with the people they talk to. If children do not practice their ability to talk to people in different situations and conditions, their skills in that area will not improve. That is an issue because social skills are the most used and most important skills in life. Whether it comes to communicating your feelings with your parents to listening and helping your friends with their problems, or even meeting new people, social skills are always used. Therefore, the internet not letting them develop these skills is detrimental to juvenile growth.
