Childhood obesity in america is a medical condition that needs major attention. Obesity is defined as having extra body fat. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past thirty years. There are major health risk linked with childhood obesity such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and high cholestoral. 1 out of 3 children are condidered obese in america today. The percentage of overweight children in the united states is growing at a alarming rate. According to a report in the Trust of America, 38 states are now overweight and most among children. With the census projecting that minoriteis will become the majority of the population by 2050,the alarming obesity rates among african americans, hispanics and whites have profound implications of our future. Some of the factors for these facts include eating patterns and accessibility to health store in black communities, lower level of physical acitivity, social and cultural beliefs about weight and reduced health resources and nutritional education.

A study found that black children spent nearly 6 hours on television. 84% of black childrend had televisions in thier rooms and 78% of them spent thier meal time infront of the televison. Where white children spend 3.5 hours on television. Only 64% of white children had t.v.'s in thier room and 58% of them ate infront of the television. There is no denial that media plays a large role in black childrens lives when not in school. Researchers have determined that people residing in minority communities do not have opportunities to purchase healthy foods, fresh fruits and vegetables because they are far from the supermarkets. But on the contrast there are high number of fast food restaurants which serve less healty food options.
