My role: childcare assented

When I arrived this morning I said good morning to all the children and help the other member of staff to clean the children’s faces as they where just after finishing their breakfast. Once they where all cleaned I then took them over to brush their teeth, as they where brushing their teeth I did the movement as if I was also brushing my teeth as some of the children where unsure if they where doing it right. After brushing the teeth we went back over to the class room, I got out the cushions and placed them on the floor, I called out their names and told them to take a cushion so we could start circle time. When more of the children started to arrive the parent/guardian had to sign the child in, the child then got a cushion and took a seat on the floor and joined in with circle time. During circle time I went the do some sterilisering, I got all the small toys from the class room and took them over to one of the rooms where there are no children around so none of the Milton would get on any of their clothes. Once that was done it was time for snack, I helped to set up the room and seat the children. Once snack was done and all the children where clean, went to the toilet and nappies changed my self and the other member of staff started to put on there coats and hats on them so they could go out side. When I was out side I was asked if I would go up to the Montessori and give them a had as a member of staff had to go home as she was not feeling the best. when I went up stares it was art time, the children where using clue and different shapes and colours. After art time the children where able to have free play some of them asked if I would read them a story while others where playing with small Lego, cars etc.

My first day of placement was something of a disaster; nothing went right on the first day and it made me go into a negative state of mind which meant that everything that day didn’t go right and I didn’t feel that I enjoyed it. First of all I was an hour late for placement as I was unable to find it; this made me feel negative about the placement and meant that I was not going to enjoy the placement. Once I had arrived at placement, the staff didn’t even know I was coming and I had no induction, health and safety regulation check or anything which was making me think they were a bit unorganized. Once I had gotten to know the children, there was one child that had threatened me because I didn’t buy an ice cream…the staff had witnessed this incident but had just laughed it off which again, put me in a negative state of mind which made me feel annoyed because they weren’t willing to do anything after I had been threatened, afterwards I just brushed it off and forgot about it but I was still in a bit of dis-belief that a child would actually do something like that. When we walked to the park, the children had a buddy system in which they held hands with each other, some of the children held hands with staff but there were too many children and not enough staff so I felt that this was unsafe for the children and that something needed to be done about it. I don’t feel that I could approach the manager because it would feel awkward and feel like I am telling them how to do their job. But I could ask questions. The threat wasn’t a realistic threat but it still moved me that she did threaten me. I would have liked the staff to have told her not do to that and that it wasn’t very nice.…

I went over to the bookshelf and grabbed their basket. Once I figured out each of the student’s names, I passed out each one of their folders to them. I was able to get them started on their lesson while Mrs. Nappier was handling the situation. I let two of the students finish up their crossword puzzle. The other student went back and reread the story for today.…

One professional practise I have chosen to write about is time-keeping and attendance. This is because it is important to attend your placement regularly because many people rely on you and expect you to have prepared activities for the children. If you arrive late and were supposed to start an activity in the morning the children and your supervisor will be disappointed and you will have let them down. However if you arrive on time or just arrived extra early it will show that you can fulfil your responsibilities and can be relied/ trusted upon to do any set task given you by the supervisor. Furthermore in my work placement i always try my best to arrive on time and go to my placement everyday. This is a good start to the working day and should become a habit. I also need to attend college regularly so that I do not miss out on my learning.…

In the work setting it is essential to be able to communicate effectively with many different people on a daily basis. It is important to establish good relationships with a range of different people so that you can plan for and meet their needs. Personally in my setting I am expected to communicate with teachers, children, classroom assistants, lunch supervisors, clerical staff, care takers and parents. Different forms of communication may be required to do so and good communication skills are essential. It is impossible to develop good relationships without good communication. In my work setting the first people I would communicate with is the teacher of the class I am with. From them I learn the plans for the day, what child r children may need extra help, the goals we are working towards and any changes to the class, the children and the plans in place. After listing to the teacher I would then ask any relevant questions and ensure I am ready for the day ahead. Good communication is essential at this point as it helps build respectful relationships, and means that we work together in a team for the good of the children. Poor communication here would lead to either myself or the teacher being unsure of or tasks for the day, which may then lead to confusion for the children. Poor communication may then lead to feelings of stress and resentment as we may feel that we are being ignored or unappreciated. When we are communicating with our managers and peers, we need to ensure that we are communicating appropriately and respectfully. Firstly we need to ensure that were we are communicating is at an appropriate time and location, and that we speak to each other in an appropriate tone of voice. It is essential that we listen to everyone else, and respect their opinions and ideas. We can show we are listening by responding with appropriate questions, having eye contact and open, receptive body…

The students had an owl treat bag waiting for them at each of their desks. The students were not assigned seats the first day and were allowed to sit wherever they pleased. After they were all seated, Ms. McIntire introduced herself and then had me introduce myself. Ms. McIntire did not want to overload the students, so she only went over the classroom rules and her procedures for taking the role and leaving the classroom. The classroom rules are posted as a reminder at the front of the room where they are easily seen by each student. The procedures for taking the role and leaving the classroom are at the back of the room, but still easily visible to the…

    Applying Maslows Theory

As a teacher in a large urban child care center, in which the children arrive around 7:00 a.m., I would begin the morning by saying good morning to the children and getting the run-down of how their night went at home from the parents and hugging each child to let them know they are important to me. I would then let the children have free play until around 7:30 a.m. to make sure all of the children are there that will be there for the day before beginning the morning circle time. As the children arrive we will do potties and make sure every child is comfortable. At 7:30 a.m. I would begin morning circle time and this is when I would sing the good morning song and welcome the children to class as well as do the calendar, weather, days of the week, the months, and numbers. Once this is all finished with I would do a few fingerplays or read a book to the children to draw their attention to the learning environment. The children would then be sent to centers for small manipulatives and math/science. There would also be a center open for “library” for the children who want to read or read to other children. Each child will have free range of where he or she would like to play for the center time allowed and then about an hour later we would be served morning snack. After morning snack, I would potty the children again and get them ready and cleaned up from snack to go outside for morning recess. After morning recess the children would come in and there would be a diverse variety of toys for the children to play with and a center set up for creative art. Each child will get a turn to make something for their parents/guardian to take home to them. After about an hour of this, it is then time for circle time to draw the children’s attention once again. As we are doing circle time, lunch then arrives and we send the children to wash their hands and sit at the table. The children eat their lunch and as they eat lunch the teacher is putting out cots…
