Reaction Times Coursework

During this coursework I am trying to find out how the different factors of an experiment affect the speed of a reaction will do this by conducting preliminaries tests on each of the factors, once I have my results I will conclude then choose my main factor that I will use in my main experiment.i shall then be conducting many more experiments and will put my results in a table, then convert them onto graphs. From my graphs I will be able to draw a line of best fit this will show me the correlation of my results this line will be a straight line or curverd depending on the different points this will also affect the correlation of the results, from this I will be able to work out the gradient of the line then I can work out the percentage yield to help come to a accurate conclusion about how my factor affects the rate of reaction the most. Finally I will evaluate my work to see where I can improve and where I went well..
The reaction I will be using in my experiment is a controlled reaction of calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid.
Calcium Carbonate + Hydrochloric Acid   Calcium Chloride + Water + Carbon Dioxide
CaCo3                   + Hcl                       Cacl                   + Co2   + H20

Factors that affect the rate of a reaction

  1. Temperature – the temperature affects the rate of reaction   because when you heat up a molecule the molecule moves faster giving the molecules more chance of colliding overall affecting the speed of the rate of reaction. this is otherwise known as collision theory.

  2. Catalyst – Catalysts are added to reactions to quicken it up by increasing the chance of particles colliding, which consequently speeds up the rate of a reaction. Only a small amount of catalyst is needed, and if extra catalyst is added after, it will have no meaniningful effect on the reaction.
  3. Concentration - By increasing the concentration of the   acid being used in the... [continues]
