Chemistry for Engineering Students, 2nd Edition by L.S. Brown and T.A. Holme (2011) with OWL access, ISBN 1428282149; or, OWL access with eBook, ISBN 0538733144; available at the University Bookstore. Textbook and OWL Consultant: Mr. James Kean, james.kean@nelson.com.
Course Outline:
The course subject matter consists of the entire material of all the Text’s chapters (more detail on page 2). For the first class, it would be useful for you to have read Preface pages xxvii – xxix and Chapters 1 and 2 – this is material that we won’t cover explicitly, except to deal with questions you may have on it, since it is an overview and, hopefully, a review of high school chemistry. Relevant course material will be posted to a website hosted by CLEW (https://clew.uwindsor.ca). With each chapter, a list of required and/or recommended problems/questions in OWL will be assigned. At the first class on January 8th, a short tutorial on the use of OWL will be given; the slides for this and a video are under the Resources link on the CLEW site. Participation in OWL is optional, but strongly recommended; if you elect to participate, a grade will be assigned based on your completion of the required problems.
Grading:
The overall grade will be determined using a mid-term exam (90 minutes), OWL assignments (optional), a laboratory and a 3-hour comprehensive final exam with the following
