1. Christina Pigozzi, “Determination of a Solubility Product Constant”, Chem 1130, T.A.- Joe Kreft, Wednesday 2:00-4:50, 1831, Emily Boucher. 2.Purpose of Experiment: The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the dissolved iodate ion concentration in saturated solutions of calcium iodate hydrate and calcium iodate hydrate in KIO3. You will determine the IO3- concentration and the Ca2+ concentration and use these values to determine the Ksp for CA(IO3)2 •xH2O. 3. Procedure: For this experiment you, the titration of solution 1, you must put 35 mL of the 1 M HCl into a beaker. Then obtain 40 mL of CA(IO3)2 in water in different beaker. Prepare a buret for performing titrations by filling it with Na2S2O3 standard solution. Record the initial reading of the buret. Obtain 200 mL of the 0.240 M KI solution in a 400 mL beaker. Obtain a Erlenmeyer flask and add the following: 50 mL KI (use graduated cylinder), 10 mL CA(IO3)2 (use volumetric pipette), 10 mL 1 M HCl (use graduated cylinder). The solution should be brown now. Titrate the solution with the Na2S2O3 until it turns yellow. Once this happens then add 10 drops of the 1% starch indicator (solutions turns black) and continue until solution is colorless. Record the final buret reading and repeat. Results should be within 0.50 mL of each other. For the titration of solution 2 put 35 mL of 1 M HCl in a beaker. Then obtain 40 mL of CA(IO3)2 in KIO3 in a beaker. Prepare the buret with the Na2SsO3 standard solution and record the initial reading. Get 200 mL of the 0.240 M KI solution in a 400 mL beaker. Obtain a 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask and add the following: 50 mL KI (use graduated cylinder), 10 mL CA(IO3)2 in KIO3(use volumetric pipette), 10 mL 1 M HCl (use graduated cylinder). The solution should be brown now. Titrate with the Na2SsO3 unti the solution turns yellow.
