Cheesecake Mission and Vision
Mission and Vision Assignment A company that has garnered my interest as a potential place to work for is The Cheesecake Factory. According to The Cheesecake Factories website the mission statement of the company is, “To create an environment where absolute guest satisfaction is our highest priority.” According to the companies website the vision statement of The Cheesecake Factory is, “Through a shared commitment to excellence, we are dedicated to the uncompromising quality of our food, service, people and profit, while taking exceptional care of our guests and staff. We will continuously strive to surpass our own accomplishments and be recognized as a leader in our industry.”
The Nine Essential Components of a Mission Statement: Customers | Yes | Product or Services | No | Markets | No | Technology | No | Concern for Survival, Growth, and Profitabilty | No | Philosophy | No | Self-Concept | No | Concern for Public Image | No | Concern For Employees | No |

After reviewing The Cheesecake Factory’s mission and vision statements I would say that they need much improvement in order to gain more of a sense of company identity and to also please the companies stakeholders. As stated earlier the mission statement of The Cheesecake Factory is “To create an environment where absolute guest satisfaction is our highest priority.” According to the text, the mission statement is supposed to be around a 250-word description defining “who the company is.” The problem with The Cheesecake Factory’s mission statement is it only discusses their desire to satisfy the needs of the customer. This is only one of the nine essential components of a successful mission statement. They are missing the main objective of discussing about the company as a whole. In order to make for a more effective mission statement The Cheesecake Factory should also talk about their product, company philosophy, and desires to satisfy not only the customers but also their employees and investors. While the mission statement of The Cheesecake Factory was vague in the description of what type of company The Cheesecake Factory is, their vision statement is too detailed and does not really answer the question of what The Cheesecake Factory wants to become as a company. As stated before the vision statement of the Cheesecake Factory is, ““Through a shared commitment to excellence, we are dedicated to the uncompromising quality of our food, service, people and profit, while taking exceptional care of our guests and staff. We will continuously strive to surpass our own accomplishments and be recognized as a leader in our industry.” The vision statement of Cheesecake Factory is written more like the way in which a company’s mission statement should be written. Based on The Cheesecake Factory’s mission and vision statements, as a possible future employee or stakeholder in this company, I feel somewhat concerned that the Cheesecake Factory might not be looking out for me as party of their enterprise. One thing that really stuck out to me in their mission statement is that it only addressed the needs and concerns of the customer. This is telling me as a potential employee that I will always be second in importance to The Cheesecake Factory. While I do respect The Cheesecake Factory’s desire to put such a high priority in their guest/customer satisfaction, I think they also need to discuss the importance of their employees and stakeholders within their mission statement. This mission statement also left me feeling like the Cheesecake Factory really does not have much of an identity or philosophy that they build on. As a future employee in the world of hospitality, a company’s sense of identity is a trait that I find to be important. I want to go into a company understanding their philosophy and what is important to the company as a whole. Therefore as an employee, I would have a better understanding of what the company wants out of me. I also feel like The Cheesecake Factory’s vision statement does not really give me a good understanding of what this company desires to become. They really never give me as a potential employee a complete understanding of where they see this company going in the near future. I also feel like their vision is focused more on outdoing themselves every year rather than competing against fellow restaurant companies. I think The Cheesecake Factory needs to discuss in their vision statement the need to put out a consistently high-quality product that outdoes any of their other competitors. Another area that I think the Cheesecake Factory needs to address in their vision statement is what they plan on doing to create healthier options. With the rise in customer awareness towards high fat and high caloric dishes, The Cheesecake Factory needs to make an effort to create healthier options for its customers. While The Cheesecake Factory always delivers a consistent, high-quality product, they are also known for their overly large portions which are high in both fat and calories. With the rise in the health conscious customer this could potentially have a major negative impact on The Cheesecake Factory’s customer satisfaction and profits. The Cheesecake Factory needs to address this issue in the near future and incorporate this into their vision statement. They should emphasize in their vision statement the need to create a product that is both high in quality and in health. I believe that by addressing this problem it can have great benefits for The Cheesecake Factory in the long run. Overall, I believe that The Cheesecake Factory would be best advised to re-evaluate their overall mission and vision statements. While The Cheesecake Factory has been profitable in the recent years the growing demand for smaller portions and healthier options could drastically impact the business and profits of The Cheesecake Factory. The Cheesecake Factory should create a mission and vision statement that describes the company as a whole and gives a direct understanding of where they see themselves in the years to come. This in return would give all of The Cheesecake Factory’s stakeholders a far better understanding of the company’s true identity and direction.

A mission statement describes a company’s fundamental purpose and how that company is unique within its product and services offerings. In writing of the company’s mission, each word must be carefully selected for consistency and there must be a commitment from the stakeholders to focus resources in the accomplishment of this mission (Ireland & Hitt, 1992). Bonnie Brewer and Stacy Kim have passed a milestone having developed regular customers within the five months of opening the first coffee house. As a statement for moving forward, “Custom Coffee & Chocolate’s mission into the community is to provide the highest quality, socially ethical coffee and chocolates while serving to keep the Seattle community connected and invigorated.”…

The creation of a vision statement can be the detrimental factor of the company’s success. It not only shows the current status of the company but it also guides the audience on where the company wants to go in its future. A Vision Statement is oftentimes the signature of a company indicating what their “dream” was, when they opened up their business. A vision is that of the owner and what he/she wanted to achieve by owning and operating that business. It captures, in a few succinct sentences, the essence of a business 's goals and the philosophies as well as underlying them. Equally important, the mission statement signals what your business is all about to your customers, employees, suppliers and the community (Goodman, 2011). The Five Guys mission statement is very simple, aligned with the philosophy that you don’t just sell hamburgers and French fries in the restaurant industry that is jam packed with fast food chains and think you going to be successful. You sell hamburgers and French fries better than your competitors, you don’t cut corners and customer services are the most important thing. Simply stated, the Five Guys Burgers and Fries mission statement is: "We are in the business of selling burgers." (Farfan) Their goal is also as followed: "Five Guys goal is to sell the best quality burgers possible. To sell the best burger possible, we focus on Quality, Service, and Cleanliness."…

According to Schilling et al., (2014), an organization’s mission statement lays out what a company stands for by defining its purpose. The mission statement is used to state what is important to the company, what customer base or markets the company will serve, and it succinctly communicates a sense of direction the organization operates under. Fred’s Fun Farm’s given mission statement places a heavy burden on the customer by stating that the company will do well if the customer has fun. The customer may question that if the experience is not fun, then that is their own fault. The actual burden of satisfying the customer is on the company offering the goods and services. Fred’s Fun Farm should put the customer first by stating that the company…
