Jesus & Mohammed
For many years Jesus and Mohammad have been compared because of some similarities of their purpose on earth. Jesus encouraged and taught Christianity faith whereas Mohammad encouraged and taught Islam faith. When each man was born Judaism was prominent in their regions. Even though they were born at separate times, both men had such an effect on the lives of their followers. This paper will take a look at each of their lives and compare how their life and death affected all who came in contact with them as well as people today.
Jesus was born in 4 BCE in Bethlehem to a young girl named Mary who was engaged to be married to Joseph, a carpenter who was devout Jewess. Mary and Joseph was visited by an angel of the Lord and told that she would give birth to a son even though she did not have sexual relations with Joseph, and his name would be called Jesus. The Bible does not speak of Jesus’ early years, but that He was trained as a carpenter by His earthly father Joseph. When Jesus was twelve, his parents went looking for him and found him in the temple speaking with the rabbis. In his thirties, Jesus began teaching and display of recorded miracles. His recorded miracles included turning water to wine, walking on water, cursing a fig tree, healing the sick, multiplying a small meal to feed a crowd, casting out demons, and even raising a man from the dead, “yet still never travelled more than 200 miles from his birthplace” (Jesus Central, 2009). Jesus had twelve followers who were called disciples witnessed, and believe that he was the son of God. Jesus had many followers of all different classes and also encouraged female disciples, such as Mary Magdalene. The primary concern of Jesus was to teach to love God and to love each other. The teachings were based on the idea that “God is forgiving to those who repent” (Fisher, 2005)
