Oz essay – Research ll The wizard of Oz is a non-fictional novel for young readers. It created a world to show how bad the gilded age was. The characters represented things from that time. Dorothy represented everyman as in the citizens. Scarecrow represented the farmers because farmers didn’t use their head when needed. Tin-man was the industrial workers, and lastly the lion represented Jennings Bryon populist. My favorite character in this book is tin-man because he shows loving emotions through the entire book even without a heart Tin-man was a woodman or in other words a laborer. He started as a normal woodman when he met a beautiful munchkin girl. Her grandmother didn’t want her granddaughter to get married so she asked the wicked witch of the east to cut off his limbs in this process of losing limbs he lost his heart. During their journey tin-man showed signs of emotions such when they had found the lion and he accidently stepped one a beetle and cried of sorrow as stated it in the story in chapter 6 paragraph 44.
The tin-woodman stood out to me. His tin body differentiated himself from the rest of the characters. I think he was one of the best characters because he represents laborers. On Monday September 1 labor workers is celebrated all around the U.S.A for helping carry on the country. This reminds me of Tin-man shows that laborers are not coldhearted, but people who look for compassion and love. It was not like they chose to be here but they did it for us. This is why in man is my favorite character. The tin man yearns for a heart so he can love again. I think the reason Tin-woodman wanted a heart was much deeper than wanting to love a munchkin girl, or experiencing the wonders of the heart. I think the reason is he doesn’t want to be this cold, unwanted, and unnoticed being, who labors all his life, he wants to be like the rest who have hearts. He doesn’t want to be different than the rest; he wants to regain his old life back and getting

The Wizard of Oz was very family friendly, as many children and parents enjoyed either reading the novel, or watching the musical or movie. For the children, this production was a very exiting fantasy story but to parents and other older aged people there was deeper meaning. There was a connection to real life and society (in the nineteenth century) with the Wizard of Oz between the characters and settings from this production. It was not completely addressed by Lyman Frank Baum as to what these sort of connections were when the production had first been publicized. This was until he wrote and published an article in 1964, which actually gave an inside point of view of the outline of the production and that decoded his own metaphors and symbols between the society (of the nineteenth century) and the novel. Some of these symbols were Dorothy’s par of silver shoes, which represented the silver issue, the yellow brick road, which represented the gold standards. Another interesting this is that “Oz” in the title of this novel is actually an abbreviation of an ounce.…

The Wizard of Oz says the majority of these messages. For instance the wizard told the tin man, “A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others.” He also told the tin man, “You don’t know how lucky you are not to have one. Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.” The whole time the scarecrow believed he did not have a brain and could not think, but just because he believed that does mean he did not have one. On two occasions the scarecrow came up with brilliant ideas, one without a brain could not possibly do that. For example, when Dorothy got hungry and wanted an apple, the scarecrow taught her how to trick the trees into throwing her apples. Another one of the scarecrow’s ideas was when he had a plan to escape, when Dorothy was trapped in the witch’s…

If you look deeper into everyday things, you may find that some characters or objects in a story represent real-life people or scenarios. When I was a young child, I watched the “The Wizard of Oz,” all the time; but when we watched it together in my U.S. History Class, I realized that the meaning is much deeper than it seems. Many of the characters and significant places or things in the movie can represent people, places, things and ideas from American history. There are many ways to connect “The Wizard of Oz,” to history.…

He thought he had no feelings and can’t be happy without his heart. Furthermore, we found out that he was delicate when it comes to hurting a creature. When the mice were about to get attacked by the wildcat, he felt sorry for them and helped them. The wood man said sadly that he had no heart and he was “careful to help all those who may need a friend, even if it happens to be only a mouse” (60). They were thankful to him and decided to help him to save the Cowardly Lion. His love helped them during the journey. Dorothy learned from the Tin Man how to love and help others. When Dorothy saw the beautiful princess of the China Country, she wanted to take her home with her, but when the princess told her that she would be unhappy Dorothy said that she “would not make you unhappy for all the world” (151). The Tin Wood Man taught her…

Before I mention about what I felt about this article, I would want to discuss how the behavior of implicit prejudices is developed. When I was young, my parents always stressed the fact that the students who study hard and get good grades grow to be great people; whatever the cases are (being rich, famous, and honorable, etc.) Moreover, most of the television programs showed us good-looking boys, attractive ladies, and well-shaped men. Friends have tended to be nicer to those who are handsome, smart, athletic, or rich. The factors listed above can be categorized in an ENVIRONMENT which has been manipulating us to be biased, explicitly or implicitly.…
