Characteristics of a Leader
Knowledge: Jack
Jack pointed suddenly. “His specs – use them as burning glasses!”
The dolphin was picked for this because it is well-known as a very intelligent animal. They are considered the smartest animal on Earth.
If a leader has knowledge then it will make it easier to trust him/her.
If a person has a very high IQ and seems smarter, more people are accustomed to listen, rather than a person who is not.

Strong: Ralph
"His mouth was tight and pale. He put back his hair very slowly...He forced his feet to move until they carried him out on to the neck of the land"
The dung beetle was chosen for this because of its strength. It is considered the strongest animal on earth according to weight.
A leader needs strength to push through many tough situations. It may be difficult for them to do certain things but must do it to be viewed as a leader.
As a strong person, the people not question the leaders view on things because they can look up to him/her and see their strength and use it as motivation.

Fierce: Ralph
"Shut up," said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. "Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things."
The lion was chosen for this character description because it is known as a very commanding animal and will do what it wants.
The fierce trait is important because it gives the leader a scary factor. It makes the followers listen and not question him/her.
If a leader is fierce, then people will be scared and never question their statement and listen.

Friendly: Ralph
"This is our island. It’s a good island. Until the grown-ups come to fetch us we’ll have fun."
A sloth correctly represents a friendly animal because it is very loving and looks really cool.
Being friendly is important for a leader because the people of the group will feel safe and look past decisions that they may not like but do not care because he/she is friendly.
If a leader is friendly it makes the followers more likely to like them and keep them as the leader.

It shows his democratic view upon handling many situations or problems that occur on the island. Ralph is willing to listen to suggestions, ideas, or opinions from everybody trapped on the island as long as they have the conch, Ralph will listen to everyone and respect them as long as they are holding the conch because everyone should respect the fact that the person has the conch which means nobody should be speaking while the conch is not in their hand. A leader can cultivate a relationship of trust by showing integrity in their actions. Also, a leader can choose to communicate their vision clear and responsibly so followers will be well informed about the leader’s vision (Lussier & Achua, 2015). If the leader wants to sustain their leadership position after gaining the following they will then need to encourage their followers to become leaders in their own right. A good leader will sustain his relationships by finding a way to merge some of their followers’ ideas and suggestions into their vision. In contrast, if they only bark orders and never encourage their followers this will cause distrust in communication and ultimately disconnect to their once strong connection to that leader’s…

Whenever a person lies to a group or individual, they lose trust; and without trust, there cannot be a leader. Trusting a leader is like having someone guide a person who is blindfolded and walking across a narrow bridge above hot lava. Once, that person is thrown into lava, he or she becomes burnt and does not believe the leader is honest anymore. A leader also recognizes when they have made a mistake and does not lie and cover their mistakes to look like a perfect leader. If one says he or she was never wrong when he or she evidentially was, the followers will not believe that they are trustworthy. A humble leader is the best leader because it tells the followers that they do not think themselves as a higher power than them. A leader is always outspoken and does not make everything too personal. If an individual asks a question to a leader he or she will be frank and sincere answering them exactly what they think. If a leader makes a question too personal to answer the asker will also become sensitive to the matter creating wall that disconnects to the leader. Connecting to people is imperative because it helps everyone cooperate…

Friendship plays a big role in the success of leadership. A person should not bring or hold their “favorites” above any one when it comes to leadership just because they are your friend doesn’t make them the best person to complete your goal. A person should stay professional when around friends, but still treat the friends equal to the other subordinates. Seek to find the strengths of friendships among the group and do what is necessary to keep the job going. Don’t judge a person’s ability to tribute to the team because you don’t know them as well as the others around you.…

To begin with, we have to understand that leadership, at its core, is all about power and influence. Power is something most people strive to get; nobody can deny the power of language. Leaders use their power to get things done. A simple distinction is between two forms of power. Socialized power, that is power used to benefit others. The other form of power is called personalized power, and it corresponds to using power for personal gain. It is very important to note that these two forms of power are not mutually exclusive. A leader can use his power to benefit others, but can also use it to benefit himself. The obvious problem is when personalized power dominates, often at the followers' expense.…

Focus on executing that vision, use this as a lens in which to evaluate strategic shifts. Now take the entire team in your ship and heading towards your planned goal. Are you getting closer? Are you proceeding to plan? Should you make a course change? Having a destination is critical to executing, tracking progress and managing the crew.
