Methods and Procedures
This chapter presented the method which was used in evaluating the musical preferences of

the students of Saint Louis University-Laboratory High School for the school year 2013-2014. It

also discussed the tool and the procedure used in gathering the data, the population of the

students involved in the study and the statistical treatment used in analyzing and interpreting the

data.
A. Research Design
The descriptive method of research was used in the study. Descriptive research provides data about the population or universe being studied.
However, it can only describe the "who, what, when, where and how" of a situation, not what caused it. Therefore, descriptive research is used when the objective is to provide a systematic description that is as factual and accurate as possible.
Moreover, descriptive research is also used to obtain information concerning the current status of the phenomena to describe "what exists" with respect to variables or conditions in a situation. The methods involved range from the survey which describes the status quo, the correlation study which investigates the relationship between variables, to developmental studies which seek to determine changes over time (Key, 1997).

Since the study was concerned with music, its impact or effect on the behavior of teenagers was to be described.
Through this method, the survey approach or normative survey which looked into the general effects about the study was identified through the answers of the respondents.

B. Population and Locale of the study
The focus of the study was conducted in Saint Louis University-Laboratory High School.
The necessary data regarding the sections of the 3rd year and 4th year students was obtained from the Registrar’s Office. The total population of the 3rd year students enrolled for the school year was 396, though now there are only 390 left. Meanwhile, the total population of the 4th year students is 345. The
