Ch 4 Into Kinesiology
1) An example of how an individual may internalizing a daily run could be, a boy is invited to run with his friend through a park. He becomes excited to spend time with friend, and he makes it a point to clear his schedule to go run. He loves the way he feels when running and will go running even if the friend doesn't. He starts running marathons and puts his identity into being a "runner."

2) Three types of knowledge available to us from subjective experiences in physical activity can be psychoanalytic self-knowledge, mystical knowledge, and socratic self-knowledge. Psychoanalytic self-knowledge is defined as being about our deep-seated desires, motivations, and behavior and it relates to types of activities in which we choose to participate and the manner in which we pursue them. Mystical knowledge is described as subjective experiences available to experienced performers in special circumstances. Socratic self-knowledge is the understanding of the difference between what we know and what we don't know; can do and cannot do.

3) An example of evidence that exists to refute the notion of people not liking the sensations that accompany the hard physical effort required to exercise vigorously, is that scientists have discovered vigorous physical activity can actually lower anxiety, thereby inducing a sense of relaxation and calm.

4) Types of physical activity that might be chosen by a person who values physical activity as an aesthetic experience could be dancing, gymnastics, diving, and/or ice skating. Physical activity for a person who values physical activity as an ascetic experience may be torturous training, boot camp, personal trainer, activities that could result in pain, sacrifice, self-denial, and/or delayed gratification. As far as a person who values physical activity as a social experience goes, they might participate in activities that interaction occurs. Activities such as team aerobics, team sports, or even exercise done in health club with others present.

5) Various ways that an individual can watch sports are vicarious participation or disinterested sport spectating. Vicarious participation is when a sport observer participates through the power of imagination. Where as disinterested sport spectating is watching sports without great emotional investment and having little concern for the games outcome. I believe that vicarious participation adds more to ones’ knowledge, mainly because you are more invested and have a deeper interest in the sport itself.

    The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most common, severe, and devastating knee injuries in men and women in both contact and non-contact sports. Within the past 20-303 years the prevalence of ACL tears has been noted more significantly in the female athlete. Females were two times as likely to have ACL injuries as a result of player contact and three times more likely to obtain such an injury through noncontact mechanisms as their male counterparts1. The latest research2 indicates that female athletes are two to eight times more likely to experience anterior cruciate ligament rupture than male athletes. Mechanics of a woman’s body are leading to more ACL injuries. Numerous theories have been suggested to explain this problem. Many of these theories4,5 include both extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors would be considered uncontrollable, and would include greater physiological rotatory laxity, smaller size of ACL associated with smaller intercondylar notch, valgus malalignment, hyperextension, diminished proproception, leg dominance, quadriceps dominance, hormonal influence, and postural alignment. Extrinsic factors would be considered potentially controllable. These include decreased strength and conditioning, inappropriate shoes, motivation, deceleration forces during injury, neuromuscular control, and body movement8. These extrinsic factors are the focus of prevention of ACL tears in the female athlete. Due to these factors, many questions have arisen regarding the increasing rate of ACL tears in the female athlete.…

    A lot of people especially the male gender would not really consider dancing a sport but I sure do. It is not as easy as it looks the technique is extremely difficult and takes lots of practice to perfect such rigorous techniques. I started dancing when I was about five for my private school at the time, I did ballet and jazz but when I went to public school I had stopped. Then I traveled to Nigeria and stayed their two years with my Aunt. While I was schooling their I also did a little dancing quite different it was more cultural, after that I came back to America and when I was a freshman in high school I audition for my high school’s drill team.
