Cell Phones
The Dangers of Cell Phones Our community has increased greatly in technology during the past 20-30 years. Cell phones have given us more freedom and have also given us more freedom and have also given us the ability to communicate with anyone we want at anytime we choose. Cell phones, to some, are the greatest things invented to mankind, but every single thing must have a negative side. What is the negative side of cell phones? Cell phones are a horrible distraction, they are said to cause cancer and also give you hearing loss. Cell phones can be a horrible distraction in our world. For example, if a person was to receive a text message and/or a phone call when they were driving a car, they might get distracted and will not be able to pay attention to the road. This causes injuries and sometimes even deaths. Also, teenagers who bring their cell phones with them during class might get distracted and pay more attention to their cell phone then what the teacher was saying. This could lead to lack of information and when it came time to study, or even take an exam they would not have the information to do well in that class. Most teenagers also stay on the phone until they fall asleep. Why do teenagers complain about lack of time if they are always on their phones? The average teenager spends about 25% of their time on their cell phones. Imagine what else we could do with that time. Using your cell phone is your choice, the only thing you need to do is control how much time you are spending on your cell phone everyday. In February 2008, the first article was published informing readers that cell phone usage could lead to cancer. The radiation sent off from cell phones can not only kill brain cells but it can also make them into cancer cells. When using a cell phone it sends off radiation that can blind insects such as bumble bees. With no sight the bumble bees need to use their sense of smell to find the pollen in the flowers. In “Extra large, Please,” Alice M. Davies focuses on the increase of obesity with children, which schools are provoking. There are many various social problems in kids of America today ranging from poverty to drug abuse. One alarming factor that is rapidly exploding is childhood obesity. Alice Davies’ article, “‘Extra Large,’ Please,” which describe the alarming social problem of childhood obesity connected to the fast food industry in America today. Davies stated: “the number of American kids who are dangerously overweight has tripled. More than 16 percent of our children qualify as ‘obese’” (Davies). Although childhood obesity is a growing problem stemming from a terrible diet and lack of exercise, we can take action now to avoid further detriment towards their future health. The first cause of childhood obesity is the lack of inactivity. Many schools are not required to have any physical education. Unfortunately, Davies’ states: “Many of those schools are so short of money they’ve scrapped physical-fitness classes” and “too few communities have athletic programs in place.” It is terrible that schools have a hand in this growing epidemic. Also, Spurlock’s Supersize Me documentary shows that “schools are cutting out recess to study for testing and only one state requires physical-fitness classes.” It is terrible that most of these children taking exams are obese. In addition, they live in a dangerous neighborhood where they can’t go out and play because drug activity and violent crime may make playing outside dangerous. Communities should take part in making the neighborhood a safe haven for kids to play outside. The second cause of childhood obesity is poor eating habits. Children will rather eat candy instead of focusing on the products that are good for the body. Parents play a major role when it comes to allowing or giving their child food that will damage the body more less providing nutrients. Children need to leave the junk food behind…

Cell phones are not just a privilege in people’s lives anymore but have become a necessity in order for people to function on a daily basis. Not a minute goes by where cell phones aren’t being used somewhere at some time. The average American looks at their phone 150 times per day. That works out to once every 6.5 minutes of every hour that the average person is awake. Cell phones have their advantages but the amount of time people spend on their cellphones is ruining face to face communication, jeopardizing jobs in the future, and putting people’s lives at a higher risk.…

Have you ever wondered why you can’t focus in class or why you didn’t score high on your Algebra exam? Well, my answer to that is because cell phones are distracting them from concentrating in elementary school, middle school, high school and even college. For instance, there are teenagers that text during class and that is not the right thing to do if the student wants to learn. For that reason, a lot of students do a horrible job in school because they get addicted at texting and using social networking sites or playing online games in the Internet. Teenagers should use their brains and realize that their education comes first before anything and they shouldn’t let technology distract them from reaching their goal. Phones are useful but teenagers shouldn’t use them as if their lives depended on them especially in school.…

Cell phones have changed the way people socially interact with each other. Nowadays, anyone anywhere can just pick up their cell phone and call each other at any time of the day or night. (Stewart 1). In the past when there were just house phones around, people could use the excuse “Sorry I wasn’t home to answer your call” but now, with the emerging of cell phones, people will get a hold of you somehow. Cell phones are considered to be your own personal property while house phones are considered to be used for the family. Cell phones depend on satellite and signal, which means anyone, can take their cell phones anywhere they choose, while house phones depend on the wires in the house which limits anyone from using it outside of the house. On the other hand, cell phones are more personal and most of them have Wi-Fi which leads them to be connected to the internet. Now people are more socially involved on the web through Facebook, Twitter, Instant Messaging, etc. However, cell phones have both a positive and negative effect on people.…

Cell phones has affected the way we socialize these days; if you notice people are starting to text their friends and family instead if actually speaking verbally. You go out to dinner and look around and see people out with family but there is no conversations going on at the table mostly just huh… yeah… mmhm.., because they are busy texting someone not there on their phones. I feel human communicant is slowly disappearing among friends and family. You even see parent’s texting their kids when in the same house to discuss something with them. People in relationships hold everything in until they are able to text it to their other half. Our communication between each other is depending on a little electronic device. People use cell phones in public places, and during church. I have even seen ten-year olds walking across the street texting their friends instead of paying attention to the cars.…
