Can you imagine what our society would be like without celebrities? Celebrities are a big factor that help shape today’s world. We turn on the television, read articles on the internet, books, and even magazines which inform us what a celebrity was wearing when they walked the red carpet. The simple fact is that celebrities are highly profiled in the media. We follow their everyday life, struggles, and moments of sadness they may encounter. Let’s face it, the information we discover about these celebrities causes us to take into consideration their life of glamour, which can ultimately lead to seeing these people as role models. In the article, “The Dangers of Celebrities,” John Idolmann states that celebrities are negative role models admired by young adults. I strongly agree with John Idolmann that celebrities are a bad influence for young viewers because it can affect their self-esteem, can become a waste of their time and causes them to lose sight of reality. The way celebrities portray themselves through the public is through the means of looking beautiful and flawless which can ultimately be hurtful to the ones who try to be like them. For example, when a young teenage girl catches a glimpse of her favorite celebrity model on television, it gives her the idea that she can also be skinny and the model type with the intention of looking just like them. They may run into a little bit of trouble because it’s not as easy as it looks. Some girls may arrive to that point of being thin and hot by turning to anorexia and bulimia; causing them to achieve that perfect body in an unpleasant matter. As stated in the article, “The Impact Celebrities Have on Our Lives,” Deborah King says, “…if you are not centered and balanced energetically, and you don’t feel so good about who you are, you are much more likely to follow your favorite celebrity and wish that you could be them.” In other words, many teenagers will degrade themselves because they will start to...
